Hello all! I'm a somewhat newly fledged smash fan. I also tend to draw out my explanations (I've actually been on forums where long posts piss off posters and moderators?), so forgive me if my introduction is a bit longer than most others'.
Earlier this year, I met a friend who was intensely into melee. He and his friend would go to local smash tournaments, which at the time, I thought was a bit over the top. However, he eventually showed me the four hour long documentary that is "The Smash Brothers" and I was like "Wow, this is actually a pretty big (and pretty cool) thing."
A month or so later, I rekindled with some friends I hadn't spoken to in years. They were really into Smash 4, had played it since the 3DS release and immediately picked up the Wii U title upon it's release. We would have "squad" gatherings at my house, and they'd bring their Wii U with like 8 controllers. Eventually our entire group of friends got really into the game and now we play it regularly.
In the beginning, most of us had hardly touched these games. The first smash game I had ever touched was Brawl, upon it's release, which I came to learn is a strongly criticized title. When we first started playing 4, we were ABYSMAL, but in time we became pretty decent at the game. I am in no way claiming any of us are good on a professional level, but we're all at least challenging for each other. I've watched players on twitch and on tournament mode just completely BLOW MY MIND. It's amazing how huge and competitive and interesting this game is, and I'm here to experience the fan base, because so far, I love the community. It seems pretty passionate.
I'm going off of the "New to the boards? Make a thread and introduce yourself!" thread because I'm terrible at coming up with introductions off of the top of my head. But, considering Smash 4 is the only game I've heavily played, my favorites to play as consist of: Ness, Mega-man, Diddy, Lucas and Lucina. It took me a really long time to learn how to git good with some characters. I would criticize characters my first times using them (before I had a better understanding of the game) but I eventually realized every character is "kind of" the same, but mostly each are a taste to acquire! I eventually sat down with friends and played the older smash titles, and it was cool to see how different each title is.
Besides my smash background, I am an anime and music lover, parent of cats, lazy student, I wake up at 1pm everyday because I work evenings and I only wash my hair like twice a week ayy lmao (but yes I still shower.) I play a variety of games and own a variety of consoles, but I'm mostly exposed to PC gaming and Nintendo titles.
This is probably the fourth forum I've ever been on. My last forum, which was my most passionate forum, eventually met a massive decline in activity. I joined in 2011, which makes my departure even more bittersweet. I short-lived being a moderator there until my life as a student took over, but man, I met my best friend on that site! Most of the people I loved communicating with eventually drifted from the forum too, but I still keep in touch via social media. Recently, I'd been itchin' for another forum to mingle with, consider not even a year ago I'd spend hours a day just interacting with the communities. That community was like a family to me, and I'm curious to see if that exists elsewhere too.
I'm hoping I really love this place, considering I've been wanting to make an account for a really long time, and the set up/rules aren't much different from what I was used to over on my other forum.
wow but can I just say I love the little emoji thingies on here too
