Great and Disappointing Omissions/Inclusions

Every hyped up game is bound to have some disappointments major or minor. Additions to a game are bound to be disappointing sometimes.

Was there anything, major or minor, that you were hoping for? Anything you are thrilled was left out?

My opinion: Omissions

Great:
Sub Space Emissary & modes that spun off of it: I am in the minority it seems. (Or maybe I am in the majority and the minority is more vocal) but I thought this was a terrible poorly executed addition to Brawl. Trying to add a good single player experience was a nice idea... and if Nintendo decided to release a side scrolling beat em up with lots of different franchises I'd think of buying it. But... the mechanics of smash bros, the percentage damage system, and the fly off the screen deaths, didn't lend itself to this well IMO.

Disappointing: These are minor and nowhere near game breaking but still

Local Tournament: I am no coding expert, but I see no reason this wasn't included. Doesn't seem it would take too much time to make. Friends and I have found ways to make brackets and randomly fill them... but the extra work and lack of on screen stuff was disappointing.

Profile edit and deletion: I'd like it to be possible to edit names... people change gaming names and it would be cool to do so without a new set of records. Also would like delete players that move and I know will no longer be competing with me.
Player vs Player records: How many times did I KO "Bob"? Vice Versa? Will never know.

Variable AI: The AI seems quite lazily put together. IMO single player should be a training for multiplayer. Only way to do this is with AI that is made well. Would have been nice to be able to tell computers to play aggressive, defensive, etc to get me used to different types of foes... and to train tactics against certain play styles. It also seems at times like an alleged free for all is treated as a team of computers vs me with friendly fire on. Also would be nice if Gimping was a tad more trainable. Seems where as computers react to the input perfectly in ways few human's could match... though they don't do to much else well.

Melee All Star Mode: Melee's version of All Star was randomized so it felt different each time. Brawl's All Star got stale and boring with the set order. 4's is going to suffer from the same downsides IMO. Would have liked different portals to choose which foe's home stage I play on... because I hated drawing Luigi's Mansion, Spear Piller, or other hazard heavy stages in that mode.

Stage Builder for 8 players: I suspect there would need to be restrictions to avoid major frame rate issues... and that would lead to a lot of frustration when creating levles. But I'd rather have a limited option than no option.

Stages: Corneria (Melee/Brawl), Saffron City (N64), Hyrule Castle (N64), Pirate Ship (Brawl).

Characters: Lucas, Ice Climbers (Issues with 3DS I know), Roy, Snake (Possible licensing issue I know). I could go on with new comers... possible or not but there is a forum for that.

Great Inclusions:

8 player smash: This Chaos will be so much fun.

Disappointing Inclusions:

Stages: Temple... If I can be the god of the video game world for one freaking day I am firing whoever keep putting this terrible game slowing pile of manure into these games.

Master Cores: I probably just suck... but it seems like the dodge timing here is just off and doesn't fit with the rest of the game. If I ever get good enough to beat him in a single attempt I will probably forget this.

Goes without saying that this thread will contain a lot of opinion so feel free to tell me that something I bashed is great... or something I praised is terrible. Interested to see where others stand.

Melee and Brawl had tournament options. But they aren't the same as legit tourney rules. I think it's just easier if we customize tourneys exactly the way we want to outside of the game. Say the rules change. The game doesn't care. It doesn't adapt the way tourney rules do.

Melee All star mode takes FOREVER. I think Brawl's all star mode too was overboard. It was a fun idea in Melee with a smaller cast but with double the fighters it's simply too tedious now to continue all star mode as it was in Melee. Adding 5-8 player fights made it faster, easier, and potentially more intense rather than tedious. I like it now.

The problems with the AI aren't really something Nintendo can fix.
They are not placing emphasis on competitive play. Thus, it does not reflect in the AI. And just as well. You really shouldn't use the Bots as practice to play with other people. You should be practicing with others. The bots should put up a decent fight to get you used to the game but not to improve yourself as a player on a more competitive or serious level. Also, you can adjust its style in training mode (which is what the mode is there for). NBD.

SSE was interesting for the cutscenes. However, while smash is the best way to introduce these cutscenes, I do think making the videos separately would be a better option.
For Smash, Master Core is a great addition. Master and Crazy Hand were getting too easy and predictable...
Core's attacks seriously take getting used to. And the timing to dodge is stricter. It is a good step up over the hands and can be pretty fun to navigate the fight even after practice and experience.
However, I wish you didn't HAVE to fight it every time... Perhaps leaving some leeway for those who don't want to fight master core again... Maybe it should come only if you damage master hand enough in a given amount of time, the way Crazy Hand appeared in Melee if you attacked master hand too fast.
