Grand Rapids SmashFest III

What’s up guys! For the past year I have been trying to put Grand Rapids, Michigan on the map of the smash community. The first G.R. SmashFest was in the first week of February and we only had 16 people. At the second tournament that number nearly doubled. I wish for this next one to be monumental. So were going to go as big as possible. I recently had a meeting with a fellow classmate of mine of Kendall College of art and design who just so happened so be the president of or schools video game club. Although he is not a fellow smash bros player, he has a passion for the intense ballet that is this game at a competition level. He was eager to help. He is talking to the clubs faculty advisor to set us up it funding, a venue, and prizes which may include a Nintendo Wii if they are available in the time frame we have.
Also I have decided to be a little ballsy and am doing three divisions of the game. There will be singles, doubles, and now and items melee that I have been dying to try. I have heard only a little about the popularity(or lack there of) but all I can say is that the decision of weather or not we will officially be able to implement this into the tournament will be determined solely on the number of people willing to try. Because this is a little bit of a shot in the dark the entry fee will be minimal. This is more for the fun of the game and the sheer excitement of the game that is Smash Bros.
So please tell me your thoughts and ideas on how we can make this work and we can make this a great time for everyone.

**I understand that not everyone is a part of the smash community that attends these tournaments so I will be putting together a myspace page so that people can easily find rules, directions and verify attendance.

If the last weekend in August is Labor Day, you'll be conflicting w/ our big season opening biweekly @ AA, and we wouldn't want that...

I will have to talk to the gaming clubs president because he set that date. I can easily have it moved to the first weekend in september if that helps.

lol, for a moment I thought Melee Division Rules applied to the entire tournament of SSBM.

My parents are starting to grow concerned of where I'm putting my focus, with all this traveling to play a game I don't even own the system for...

Nevertheless, I'll do my best to convince them to let me show up for this.

dan, i think we decided that the sunday of laborday weekend was when we were going to do our first biweekly. Since saturday is the first michigan home game (traffic and the game). i'll make the post after this weekend.

i'd be willing to go to this gr thing if it doesn't conflict with anything.

Aquarius, I am taking a lot of people so there will be plenty of people there. Let me know when the date is final, or if it changes from the second weekend in september.

PLEASE READ THIS!!!

I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is I had to talk with the Vice President of Kendall College about our tournament and he said that he would rather have it be for Kendall/Ferris students only because the gaming club's money should go to benifit/reward students. There will be free play for anyone that is bored that day and wants to come by, but the sucky thing is the actual tourney will only be for knedall students. But that's okay because the good news is all I have to do is talk to GrandLan( the place where our previous ones have been) and tell them I want to do a tournament and they will say yes and what time. As far as a date for it I'm thinking mid /late October. Sorry again for the inconvinence guys but i want to make sure that we have a tournament that anybody and every body can play in so if you have any questions, comments or info, you are more than welcome to PM or leave a post.
