Grabbing out of shield

Is it just me or can we not turn around and grab out of shield anymore?

I tested a little and you can, but the buffer system in this game is really arbitrary at times. You can indeed buffer a turnaround grab, but the buffer window for grab starts earlier than the one for the turnaround. So if you input grab during the window where only grab is read, you won't turnaround even if you're holding the stick. You have to make sure to press grab AFTER the turnaround window opens, which is unnecessarily tight compared to other buffered actions.
