I've recently started playing Shulk and I'm thinking about using him as my main at some point. The problem is, I'm unfamiliar with which stages are best to use the character on. So i've made this thread in hopes to get some advice for me as well as other Shulk players who may come across this thread. Also, it helps if you recommend stages that are likely to be found in a competitive setting.

I feel platforms could work well since his attacks have high reach for the most part.

Other than the FDs, what are the stages that are generally agreed upon as tournament legal, anyhow? BF and Yoshi's (Brawl) are the only legal stages from previous titles that remain...are they the only two that have platforms?

Platforms for Shulk's anti-air Usmash & Uair? Yes please.
Stages like that include:
  1. Battlefield
  2. Jungle Japes
  3. Yoshi's Island
  4. Unova Pokemon League
  5. Prism Tower (transitions)
  6. Tortimer Island (palm trees)
Those are some right off the top of my head

This in a nutshell. Though I've never played on Jungle Japes as Shulk. Yet. I'll have to check that one out. Prism Tower feels good since in some portions of it, it becomes a really small and narrow platform. No where for them to run. Shulk and his god range can do what he pleases.

Jungle Japes was mentioned for the middle section having that platform in the center. Otherwise the outside stage elements of the center are the dangerous places to be unless you're in control of stage presence currently edge-guarding

Play on FD as much as possible, because it's likely your worst stage. If you can do well on FD, you'll dominate on platform stages.

All you have to know for BF is upthrow-uptilt. If they take the high platform you can safely uair, and if they're on the side platforms you can utilt them repeatedly. This is a great time to activate Buster as there isn't a good counterattack. They just need to get back to the bottom platform in order to begin playing the game again.

Oh right, Buster Uthrows > Utilts on Platform stages makes Buster very safe. I love stages sometimes.:shades:

I've only had the opportunity to play on the FD stages, so I probably can't add much to this discussion. I do like the flat stages though, as the ground sweep you get from a SHFF Nair is great for maintaining pressure across rolls. Forcing them onto the ground and near my strongest aerial zones (below and in front) is much better than trying to hit them above me.

Of course, platforms solve this. Just stove food for thought about FD.
