I main Sheik in Melee, and I've basically been playing only as her in Project M, since the transition is really easy. But I would also like to enjoy playing as a new character. Does anyone have any recommendations towards PM characters that play similarly to Sheik? Diddy Kong seems like a good place to start to me, but I'd like to hear others' opinions on it, too.

Lol that would be pretty cool. I'll have to check out DK now, too.

In addition to the other characters suggested, I'd actually say check out :metaknight::charizard::wario:

As for Meta Knight and Wario, I feel like the learning curve for those would be crazy high, since I'd imagine you'd need a lot of Brawl practice with them. But there's a local Charzard player that always impresses me, so I may check out that character.

Pit he has a chain grab very similar to Pit Arrows to gimp with similar to needles tricky recovery & his bair dair & fair has similar knockback so Pit is Perfect compliment to a Melee Sheik Player

Pit was actually one of the two characters I was narrowing it down to. I think I'll probably check him out and invest the most amount of time into him.

If you're more adventurous, you could always give Zelda a go. She obviously plays nothing like Sheik, but playing both Sheik and Zelda comes with the benefit of surprising unsuspecting opponents with a counterpick MU they're very likely to be unfamiliar with. Even if it isn't a counterpick, transforming mid-match to change the pace of the match often throws opponents off-guard if they can't adjust to the different combo weights/ranges of moves/etc. easily.

You should keep in mind that, while she does have her own arsenal of tech movement, it's a bit unorthodox, and her meta relies on peculiarities from her janky moveset (new Side-B mechanic, not very well-known Brawl Neutral-B mechanics, new Up-B mechanic, moveset filled with long multihits), to pull off strong reads and develop good mindgames. It's type of playstyle that of unique to her, and can add some spice to your more straightforward tech-reliant Sheik play.

It's a bit of a big leap, but if you ever find yourself wanting to beach off from Sheik or characters that play similarly to Sheik, I would consider that Zelda may be one of the many very different characters, but she's the only one with those added bonuses. (;

Nobody really plays as anti-approach as Sheik does. Dedede is similar for putting hitboxes in someone's face if they try to approach, and being able to edgeguard. Pit can be annoying with arrows and can go out relatively deep for edgeguards, and Mario is basically the sheik of pm, being easy at lower levels, and still viable at higher levels if played right.

That's actually the setup I'm running with currently. I usually main either Zelda or Sheik, and I love both their play styles; you can basically counterpick mid-match, which is cool. I love the way that Zelda plays. And I of course love the way Sheik plays, since I play her in Melee.

But lately, I've been having sort of an identity crisis with PM. I like playing as Sheilda, but I kind of want something new, something PM specific. Which is why I made this thread, as I want to find a good character for a Sheik player to transition to (since no character really does Zelda like Zelda does Zelda).

Depends on how you like to play your Sheik. If you like to play around with her Dthrow, Pit and even Olimar would be decent choices since both of them have decent chain grabs and guaranteed Fair follow ups on most characters. Also, Diddy and Squirtle have similar properties on their Fairs which makes the transition a little easier. Squirtle's DI mixup on DThrow and FThrow will lead to a lot of free Fairs as well. Squirtle is a bit technical though so that may turn you off to the character, but banana shenanigans can be just as complex so... yeah.

All in all for a Shiek main I'd recommend giving Pit, Olimar, Diddy, and Squirtle a quick glance.
