good mindgame tactic?

I was wondering if using a full jump Nair waveland backwards move would be a good mindgame tactic, to make the other person think about rushing in for an attack. Any good marth players think this would work?

Edit: I also found out that you can short hop, fair waveland back (or forward if you want to attack with an F-smash/Dtilt) so I guess that would be better?

Nair doesn't protect underneath you or above you. So if you were playing against a faster character odds are you will get punished for fulljump nairing if they are close enough. Most characters can grab you from the air before you can reach optimal wavelanding range. So it really depends on the circumstances (spacing, are they approaching, etc.).

I've gotten people with the sh fair to waveland though. It's pretty effective if you went to combo with a sh double fair and they jumped out before you hit them. Normally they will come down on you if you continue with the double fair anyway, so wavelanding back can net a fsmash or grab.

I've been thinking about this, you shouldn't ask if it's a good mindgame tactic. If it works for you against someone that's all that matters. No mindgame is always going to work against good players or bad players. People claiming whether it's bad or good will only hinder your development. Use it until it works, tweak it if it doesn't. Then change it if you find something better. That's the best way to increase your ability to create mindgames (hate the term) on the fly.

That seems like it too slow to work.

SHFair might be okay but even thats a bit slow.

In general you try to avoid wavelanding with Marth and substitute with his way superior dashdance game.

I pretty much disagree with all of that. SHFair is by no means a bit slow. And Marth's WD is one of the best in the game, and a waveland covers more ground then by going into his dash dance..

Who needs mindgames, they were taking out in Brawl anyways. /sarcasm But yeah listing like a move and how to execute it is a weird way to figure out a specific mindgame. Just do stuff to trick your opponent. ^_^

i really dont kno how this would be used as a mindgame tatic but it could be possible and if you see it start to work like you trick them into playing your game start trying different things cuz if you rely on one mindgame you'll become predictable and thats not good then

again you also have to be careful against other marths cuz they may get that tipper in before do and thats all bad if that happens cuz then they can edgeguard and probaly get a kill, it may work but you have to be careful doing i think but idk

also with characters that can spam may not try to attack you rite away cuz they can still do damage to you with out the risk of getting hit so you have to kno when to do it if it works at all

you should try to develope your mindgames and if you already have some try to improve them

a really good and basic mindgame is dash dance to set up grabs but dont dash dance super fast just do it at a speed you can control and is confusing to judge

I full jump air dodge.
if you do that you can be combo'd cuz you have no control over marth after you air dodge, so this may not work and if it does work as a mindgame your playing some pretty dumb ppl because most smashers would sieze this opportunity to pull of a fat combo i kno i would lol
