Not really, no. Any other brand has either stiff controls or break quickly.

if you are going to go third party regardless of what people say, I would say go with Hori, they are a pretty third party maker as far as I am concerned. But, you can also find some decent [used] Official Nintendo controllers for 10-20 Dollars on Amazon. . .

If you can afford it always get the official Nintendo brand products. They are just all around considered better. There is the gmestop brand, but that one feels strange and its definitely not as durable as Nintendo's official stuff, as everyone knows Nintendo products just don't break lol.

A friend of mine has 4 gamestop controllers (along with 2 Nintendo brand controllers) and they all have trouble recognizing inputs in the stick. For instance, half the time you try and dash right, your character begins walking left.

All known third party controllers for the Gamecube are bad. They become damaged more easily and quickly, and are worse regardless (less resistive buttons/sticks, inaccurate or unresponsive analogue stick movement detection, sticky triggers, etc.). Project M being so technical just exaggerates this. I don't know of any professional smasher that uses a third party controller or endorses them.

On Amazon.com right now (it's consistently like this):
Used purple, back, and platinum controllers start at $15, though good condition ones are usually more like $20.
New white controllers are $35 (including shipping).
All controller types are in plentiful supply.

Also this:
Official Nintendo controllers are the only way to go, and they're not incredibly expensive. A new white controller is $37 in the Smahboards store. You can preorder a new black controller coming out this holiday season for $30. Ebay has used official controllers usually around $15 (just make sure it' in good condition). And if you scour garage sales, thrift shops, ask your friends you can probably find one for just a few bucks.
If you're getting a new controller, use the Smashboards store. If you're buying online I would recommend getting a new one, since they're not that much more expensive and you can be sure of the quality before purchase. I've bought 2 used controllers from Amazon; the first had a loose control stick that wore to an effectively unusable degree after 6 months, and the other developed a slightly sticky Y button. Problems like that are on top of general wear.

pm makes me wish i had a stick+directional button fightstick, as I'm a stick user in any other fighter. i wouldn't dare change my layout on my atrox though, i'm perfectly happy with my current modifications

edit: now that i think about it, i kinda wat to get a cheap hori stick, rig the extra buttons to be my smashes, make the last two guard and grab, and boom! some rearrangement and a pcb later i'll have a smash stick!

Does that stick have an analogue joystick?

unfortunately no, it's a traditional stick with a buncha Sanwa parts in it, and the stick is an 8-way.

I'm looking into 360/Analog sticks right now to see what's good in that department (and not $100), contemplating actually building a SSB stick from scratch since it's not too hard to do.
