GoldenEye is coming (maybe) to the XBOX Live Arcade

Resting their cred on "very reliable sources" and evidence that they claim to have seen, Xbox Evolved is reporting that Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade shortly before Activision (the current 007 IP holder) releases their new James Bond title. The news comes (according to the site) after an agreement between Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios and Activision. XE says the game will feature new graphics and online multiplayer, and that other Rare games may be in the pipeline like Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark.

OK, sounds great, but is it true? We have no evidence one way or the other, but we think it would at least make sense for all the parties. Microsoft gets more solid XBLA titles, Rare (which is owned by Microsoft) reminds people of the company's glory days and MGM gets more publicity for James Bond. As for Activision, well, we already know they're not above pimping out a license for cash. We'll keep you updated.

Umm...your thoughts?

I've never seen a game this big that's downloadable for the Arcade. I mean, I'm not sure I can believe it. Come on...200 GP for GoldenEye? The game itself should have 1000 GP. But as we know, all Arcade games are only 200 GP.

- RUMOR: EGM reported that Microsoft has canceled the release of Rare's GoldenEye 007 for Xbox Live Arcade at the last minutes, no reason was given.

The the-magicbox says its in the making but might be dumped. Who knows though? Anymore sites have any info or sources?

Goldeneye on XBLA=No Goldeneye on Virtual Console.

I don't own a 360, and I don't plan on buying one, so for me, this is very sad news.

Rare made Goldeneye and Rare is owned by Microsoft. There was never a chance.

Nintendo still own the actual code to Goldeneye. Rare have said in the past that they would have no problem letting Ninty use it, but it was still Microsofts decision. So I guess it comes down to who's going to back down, MS or Ninty?

Perfect Dark would also go to XBLA according to the rumor with Goldeneye.

It's been canned due to Microsoft and Nintendo being unable to agree on a payment agreement of a one time fee, or a continuing percentage of the income from the game.

Also there were apparently some problems with several actors due to licencing agreements.

I think this is one of the games I'd rather just keep my fond memories than play it again. I'm a bit afraid to see how it's aged.
