I've been practicing pretty much ever since Sm4sh has come out..but now that i'm actually doing this im pretty scared..Will I be made fun of for only being 15?What mindset should I go with? Sorry that this isn't probably the best place to post this but thank you to anyone that takes the time to answer..

My For glory records is 758 wins and 720 losses? is that a bad record?

Dont treat going to a tournament any different than any other games youve played
Just pretend they are friendly games and treat your opponent with respect

Tournaments arent about winning, if you go just to try and win youre going to have a crappy time

Thanks for the advice! I'm sure a mindset like that will make everything a lot better there! :D

Your age doesn't really matter as long as you are mature enough. Here in AZ our number 1 power ranked player is only 15 years old too. Your first tournament should be played with a mindset of playing to learn. Also get some friendlies in before the tourney. Good luck to you.

Where I go, there are plenty of kids who probably barely 12 years old, and there are plenty of other teens there too. I myself just barely turned 16 last October a little after Smash 3DS came out, and in our states power rankings we have a player 15 years old going on 16 too. Age doesn't matter, don't let it discourage you. In fact, I'd even say the younger you are, the better; you get a headstart on learning in your smash career.

Also, For Glory and Tournaments are not nearly the same experience, your records shouldn't really matter much and they don't really determine how skilled/unskilled you are. For Glory is terrible and I honestly would advise against playing there for practice I'd even say it can actually be detrimental to you:
  • 70% of people online suck, only once in a blue moon will you meet someone actually smart
  • Only stage used is Final Destination, which is hardly a balanced stage and disallows some characters from being used to their full potential (Robin, DK, etc.). Playing only For Glory will also make you too used to FD, and you won't know how to play anywhere else when you have to go there in a tournament.
  • Nintendo still sucks at internet, the input lag is horrendous and can mess up your execution offline. Even when a match is smooth, you'll still have like 3-4 frames of delay.

You may meet some try hard little **** heads who want to bring you down, but ignore them, a majority of the Smash Community is great for people who like to be social and enjoy themselves. As i've told my friend before, if you relax and enjoy yourself, overtime you'll become better and more open. If you Try hard... Well..

You'll probably lose, but that is OK because it is a valuable experience and you'll have a good time.

Go for it to have fun! Don't get down because of your age. Aside from that, there are always those guys who like to joke on "Newcomers". Don't care about them, it's just annoying people.
I hope you win! If you lose, learn your mistakes.

Enjoy it as an experience above all else. Just play and enjoy. If you get tense that will screw you up so not only will you not enjoy yourself you are likely to do worse. Go in with a mindset of fun above all else and you will do well.

Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it.

Yo Canada though. I'm a Canadian too, and up here we're all super chill, so don't worry about a thing. No one will make fun of you for being a kid. Age and skill aren't related necessarily. Some of us are adults, but we're all kids inside.

Be attentive: you should watch as many matches as possible. Have fun with your pool matches and choose the character(s) you are most comfortable with. Don't be afraid to ask questions: we were all there at one point and remember what it's like to have the jitters.

Some of the best advice I can give you is to look for players who play your character: the really good ones will give you an idea of what your character is capable of at a high level. This works, trust me. I met Nakat at Come Up, had a money match with him, and he gave me some of the best Fox tips I could ever hope to receive.

Most importantly: have fun! We're all there because we love this game!

Don't worry about your age, I'm 30, so I may be considered old among the community, but I played Smash 64 when it was new when I was 14, then Melee when I was 17, and then Brawl at 23!

Age don't matter - you don't have to be in a 18 to 25 age bracket to love smash. If smash is fun for you thats all that matters.

If you lose, don't let it get you down, if you see your favorite smasher, go ahead and meet them! I'm sure they would be OK taking a picture or giving advice, the Smash community is the best community!

This ^

When I was playing in a tournament I ended up respecting my opponent. He was very good and very friendly. When I beat him we shook hands and I told him that he did a good job and I enjoyed the friendly competition.

That's not to say there won't be **** players either. I got 2nd place in a tournament but lost to a Kirbycide. We played 3 lives on FD and both ended up with one life, he had 100%+ damage when respawned with my last life. Battle was great, I was beastin' him, and one slip up and I fell victim to his trick.

Point being: people watching me said that I truly won that fight or should have won that fight. Though that guy was dirty, a lot of the spectators commended me, which made me feel great :)

Age doesn't matter, Wizzrobe is testament to this.

As for your frame of mind, just keep it cool. Play as if you were playing a friend, if you spot something they do repeatedly, learn to punish or dodge it. It'll be hard against people you've never played before but you'll soon learn to adapt on the fly.

Your For Glory score doesn't really matter. Offline is alot different to online. But in comparison to some I've seen it's a little low (No offence). Most decent players I've seen have about 70%+. If you have it above that and have a few hundred matches you should feel good about yourself. It'll be harder to do that now though as alot of people have learned alot about the game. I have a decent score and some days I get creamed online.

I actually just came from my first tournament. Came in 25th of 61 which is lame--I know I could've done better. Didn't see anyone using my main, Pit, but I did see (immediately) why Rosalina is so notorious lol.

Had an absolute blast. Me and my crew (also their first tournament) brought two cameras for filming and had a lot of fun; all of the tournament's participants gathered around and enjoyed us and our camera as well lol.

Where do you find state by state power rankings?

Age can be an issue, but not in the way you guys think. Reflexes start declining by age 30...

...so I have less than 2 years of good reflexes left.

By this time, I'll hopefully have some kids to teach them the art of Smash.
:happysheep:

Or I'll just become a TO and watch the younglings in the community get better.
