Go back on a promise?

Let's not kid ourselves, Nintendo gets input CONSTANTLY from people asking for certain 3rd party characters. Sakurai is a man for the people, if not necessarily a man of his word. I believe Sakurai would go back on his word to make the gamers happy and add popular characters like Geno. Any evidence of Sakurai going back on his word would e appreciated (scratch release-date promises).
