I don't know what you people mean when you say Sonic is good at gimping recovery moves. Do you mean he's good at edge guarding?

"Gimping" recovery?

Most people have found it useful to use his homing attack as an adge guard, so yes thats what we mean.

Gimping refers to interfering with your enemy while they're trying to get back on stage. For instance, jumping off the ledge and hitting them with a homing attack to knock them further away before they land. This is a good example of the technique, around 0:20. Also, Sonicorochi is just plain good at this.
Sonic can gimp because of his incredible recovery, allowing him to chase his enemy to the edge of the screen, off it, and then recover on his own.

Both comments on top are good for what you asked. But you may see Gimped used in a lot of other concepts. It basically means "make worse" or like "cripple" sort of.
Like maybe saying, "This and That, can gimp your jump". It means your jump will be worse because of this and that.
I am just saying this in case you see the word gimp used in another context.
But for what you asked (Sonic gimping recovery) it is what was answered above me, Sonic has an awesome recovery, plus good abilities to do while edge guarding, which makes him very good at gimping recoveries.
