Smash 3DS Getting Super Frustrated

My 3DS is broken so I have been playing Brawl just so that I don't get rusty but I am sucking really bad. I played ssb4 on my friend's DS and I was trying to get short hopping again but I just couldn't get it. Idk why, maybe it is because I am playing Brawl even though I hate Brawl. Could I be over complicating it too? I'm trying to short hop n-air but I can't get it. Any help would be great. Thanks!

short hop hasn't changed since N64. So idk why you're asking. Just tap the jump button.

Make sure you don't do a full hop, and then perform a Nair. It's not hard.
