Hey all,

I'm a noob to SmashBoards, but a longtime 64 Smasher. I'd like to get more involved on here, and play some online matches. Could anyone give me some advice to get started. I have a newer iMac, and I probably wouldn't have any trouble running an N64 emulator...but will I be able to find a USB extension for my N64 controller that works on Mac? Will I have to find a way to run Windows on my Mac?

Cheers,
Shadowfeast

Here ya go.

As far as adapters go, idk. Some of them have frame delay, and I've heard the raphnet is the best one. It doesn't matter that much though. I use the Mayflash adapter with the two n64 ports in it, and it works just fine.

Can't really help you with the mac/pc thing. Someone else will help you out though, so just wait for a response.

Happy Smashin'!

Thanks for the response! I'll work through that tutorial once I get Windows up and running (it's looking like I'll need to have it in order to play with Project64) Now I just have to decide whether to use BootCamp or Parallels...

If you use MacOS X, get the Raphnet adapter to play online. Although, I guess if you're running a VM for windows it shouldn't matter. Raphnet is still recommended.

yeah you need to be able to run windows on your mac. I'm on a mac as well, running Parallels. Just get a mayflash adapter, way cheaper and works fine on mac.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Do you get any lag while running parallels? I think I'd rather use that, but I was worried that it wouldn't run as quickly as I wanted.

For some reason when I was in Ukraine a couple of years ago and I ran Parallels, I would get a slightly higher ping to the server than I did on Bootcamp. So you might get like a frame more delay. 64 itself ran fine I think (it lagged online but pretty sure that was just the bad internet).

parallels won't be the cause of lag. I'm never the one lagging, but then again I have pretty good internet. Make sure you're plugged in via ethernet! Wireless can cause lag (or so i've been told)
