Never been good at forum stuff but I promised myself I would try so-!!!

Hello everyone~! My name is shirosakura, or shiro for short I guess, and this is officially the beginning of my journey into smashboards and competitive smash in general! So, while i'm really scared, I'm really excited too.

I've been playing smash in some form or capacity since I was five years old, and I'm gone from poorly-but-emphatically playing Smash 64 and Melee to somewhat seriously playing Smash 4 in the years that have passed. But what really pushed me over the edge, as far as getting involved is concerned, is watching my friend and her friends play competitively as well. They are really good at what they do, and after going to a tournament and seeing the caliber of the players she and I (unsuccessfully) went up against, it really inspired me to do better. Plus, the community that she's apart of looked awesome and affirming, and something I would love to be a part of.

But above all, my reason for practicing at smash is because I want to reach a point where I'll be able to play with my friends again. I don't want a match to turn into a training session or to find myself being a burden compared to higher-level players. I just want to be able to enjoy the game with her on even footing, so that we can both have fun too. I want to be able to enjoy smash with my friends. That's my true reason for being here.

I'm already taking notes on the matches I watch and the techniques I learn, and practicing is very, very tough, even against a motionless CPU. But I know the road to success is paved with mediocrity and failure, and I believe in the bottom of my heart that if I keep at it, I will get there someday. If anybody has any tips on how to practice (or better yet get my feet wet in the forums), I would love to hear any advice anyone has!

Ummm! Other than smash, I'm anime/cartoon trash, and a lot of my time is spent on that as well as the new nintendo games of the era. I like biking and walking through the city and doing some outdoorsy things too, but most of my living hours is taken up by my studies, where I'm majoring in Professional Flight and minoring in Japanese in college.

I hope this wasn't too long >~< Thank you for reading, and thank you for having me! I'm really hoping to go far, and hopefully, this is my first step.

Welcome aboard! We hope you enjoy it here.

Tips? First off, who is your main if you have one?

If you need help with anything, just give us a holler. Cyn Cyn will come by later with a directory that will point you to wherever you want to be on the site.

Aha! Hello & welcome to Smashboards. It's been weeks since I greeted someone properly. Lucky winner you get the greeting from me ^.^. I'm pretty bad at smash and the things I come out on replays when sending my competitive friend seem like fun flukes I get from time to time. I love that because it's unpredictably and that is one point of Smash. Cloud your opponent's mind and have them guessing. Hit them when they least expect with what they least expect. I've been playing smash since the 3DS version came (which is my only Smash game) on Oct 3, 2014 and I gotta tell you practicing is a real hulking troll. But most of those super Smashers didn't get born Smashing. They practiced and if they have reached the pinnacle of awesomeness they are in then so can you. I'm on it and I'm still a low basic player but I love my current play. it's way more improved than the chase an opponent and hit them that I used to do. Smashboards is a great place to practice and meet players and if you already have a competitive player in your friend to take you under her wing then there's nothing else better to ask. That's a super plus. I have a very good friend who plays quite awesome and he's my mentor. He's teached me a lot even thou we are in different countries and he's a good friend and keeps up with my smash noob steps. Let your friends help you and start practicing hard. If you have questions you can ask the pros here at the boards too. Good luck & have fun ^.^

Thank you for saying hi! And my main is Toon Link, currently. I used to main Pit, and switched over when I wanted to try something different. I've already learned quite a bit, and have just picked up zoning with bombs and using the boomerang, but that's about all I've been focusing on for now (and there is SO much to focus on lol). I'm having the greatest trouble with spacing right now. But anyway, please share me whatever you think would be helpful!

Thank you for all of the advice and tips you gave me! :D Everything you said was sooo true, and a lot of grit is basically what's going to get me to that point. Everyone I know who got good at the game certainly have put their souls into doing their best, and if I have any expectation of getting close to as good as they are, I have to do the same. As far as having smash senpai to talk to, I'm very lucky in that regard, aren't I? xD I know they'll be more than happy to help me and give me tips, so I'm grateful, but i'll have to do my best to not get paranoid that I'm bothering them lol. We both enjoy the game immensely, and I know that they want nothing more to see me grow as well uwu

Both of you, thank you so much for being so willing to share with me!

Hello!
Welcome to the Smashboards and competitive Smash. Although it's always nice to compete and all, please, don't forget to have fun with the game, as that's the most important thing.

Yes don't stress out too much.

It's not healthy to get mad nor too technical. At the current stage you are you need to be lenient with yourself. It all goes in a nice ice cream mix. When you have much fun it can be a bit frustrating to be serious competitive on the other hand fighting like a machine with no feelings for fun isn't too enjoyable. Always play relaxed and it's be smooth. And don't worry we like to see people grow up in Smash. Cyndane gave you a lot of links. In there there are character guides and specific boards of which you will find key info if you want to check extra stuff, confirm anything someone tells you or discover something new. It's been a warm welcome I see. Looking to see you grow ^.^

Oh man everyone is so nice on here, thank you all! :0
Yup. They've been for me too. I came here after disappointments in another game board. It's been warm here ever since I arrived more than a year ago. It's all about helping others or simply being nice. That feeling is good when you actually make good friends or see the results of your help lent.

The mods seem to be nice, here.
And believe me, I've seen some crap mods and admins in my time.

In these boards. They aren't the only nice mods I've seen, but I've been to some forums and boards I won't name that have had some stupid people moderating the site.

I see. To progress well in smash you need help from 3 places. Strangers, friends&family and yourself. First you need to believe in yourself which Shiro has. The second is from known people which she has in her friends. The last one is from Unknown people. That's where here comes. The community is well and I agree with the mods. You need to be just and solid but also kind and compassionate. This is why regular user sometimes are scared of mods to contact them or make friends. Mods are not an angry judge that will enrage at the slightest touch they are also users who would like friends. It's just they are the board policeman but just like a regular person they play games have friends like to do stuff and they are not mods in all boards they go so they are perfectly like regular persons. But as you say sometimes there are mods or admins that seem like Darth Vader lol. Anything molds around them and they don't bend an inch. I have talked here to mods ex mods and admins. At first i was scared but then It felt natural just like another person. I do gotta tell ya a small trivia; when I was first greeted by a mod I just saw the red banner that said Moderator under the picture and that got me the attention to the left side of the screen instead of reading first the message on the right side and the first thing that came to my mind was "oh no a mod came did I do something wrong on my very first post? way to go to start being penalized. But then I read and it was a welcome. I though mods were busy desk people and didn't come out of the caves unless alerted. I'm glad it was a welcome. I knew then that mods hanged around and thus this would be a nice place since the upholders of peace were around, trouble would barely pop up if at all. ^.^
