So I have always loved Melee but I lost my Gamecube with moving across the country and going to college and all so I haven't been able to play for a long time (like three years). I have been playing PM on a friend's Wii and I bought my own Wii U to play Sm4sh, but I finally recovered my Gamecube with Melee. So playing a lot of Sm4sh has pretty much made me forget entirely about wavedashing and all the movement options it had, so is there an easy way to remember them? Is the best way to just go back into it and hope muscle memory lasts a long time or has anyone else had a similar problem with any insight about it?

Just go to training mode and relearn some muscle memory. Learning how to wavedash is like learning how to ride a bike. You'll be fine. It's just 1 frame tighter than in PM. PM is a pretty similar game to Melee

Like EPsilon said, I think it'll be a "like riding a bike" situation, where as you play muscle memory will kick in and help you remember a lot of what your mind forgot. If you have a regular Wii, I'd highly recommend downloading the 20xx hackpack (all you need is an SD card, you don't even need a Melee disc). I'll attach the link below where you can download it for free. It has a ton of helpful features, like an L-Canceling overlay that alerts you by flashing red every time you miss an L- Cancel in a game. But that can quickly help you back to and surpass where you were the last time you played. And I'd also recommend watching some high level tournament games on youtube if you're not already, it'll just help remind you of all the options you have available to you and how you can combo different moves into one another. Good luck man!

Scroll down to where it says "Wii Modding Guide: From vanilla Wii to hacked Wii with 20xx", that guide gives you a really good step by step with pictures for everything you have to do.

Go balls out and try play as technically as possible. Don't "ride the bike" just to your neighbor's house, see if you can still do every stunt you could back in the day. Top tier analogies aside, push yourself and push your character's agility. Melee has so much room for expression.
