Getting around bad disc through file replacement?

Through some combination of slight disc scratching and bad disc drive, me and my roommate's copy of Brawl has been getting disc read errors more and more. We've found that after loading Brawl- or some other hack through SD the errors seem to happen much less often. However, we've gotten to the point where we still have to cross our fingers before each match and hope it works (it freezes at character select 1 out of 4 times).

I was wondering if somehow we could minimize the amount read off the disc by replacing even files that aren't changed or hacked? I realize that this forum probably has some rules against ISO related stuff and my request/question is bordering on piracy, but I've already spent far too much on Brawl discs and Wii repair, and playing Smash+hacks is pretty much a nightly ritual for us. I'm not asking for the ISO, I just want to know if this plan is sound or not, or if there is a better alternative.

I have:
-Homebrew channel installed
-Slightly less than 2GB SD card (but willing to upgrade if it means not buying another disc)
-8 GB flash drive
-Virtually no knowledge of Homebrew related stuff beyond Smashstack shenanigans

If it's that bad, your problem may be your disc drive (as you probably figured out).

Using the File Patch Code won't fix it. Get the drive fixed.
There are... other... ways.
