Wee for blogs that few people probably actually care about... anyways...

I've had a few people ask me how I'm always about and around and finding new things and doing stuff and multitasking at least 20~ things at once, and when some people look at my tabs it scares them that I have 18+ tabs open at all times and that's just my browser... let alone other programs I have up and running. And people ask me...

"How do you manage it all?"

Well first off, I just know a ton of shortcuts. I wish I knew more - and that's why I made this blog. Share shortcuts and learn shortcuts to make your computer time more productive. Also just little tips and tricks.

  • Use your mouse as little as possible.
  • Control+Tab moves onto the next tab in most if not all browsers.
  • Control+Click to open a link in a new tab. I do this so I can browse other things while that page loads.
  • Alt+Tab will tab through your open programs. Or you can go into a niftier view using Windows Key+Tab.
  • If using W7 - make use of the taskbar. I have 0 things on my desktop, and 7 pinned to my taskbar. If using XP/Vista make sure to pin often-used programs to the Start Menu.
  • Make use of Run. Press the Windows key+R || If you need notepad type "notepad". Need paint for a screenshot? Type "mspaint". If you learn the name of your .exe files, you can just Run them without having to find them.
  • Open new tabs with Control+T. Close them with Control+W. Refresh (if needed) with F5.
  • Press F6 to highlight your current URL. Useful for shorter named websites that you visit.
  • Be organized! It helps when you're able to quickly find files you need!
  • My right click is damaged. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. This was one reason why I had to learn a lot of shortcuts or just use my keyboard when possible. When I delete things - I use the Delete key, not right click-->delete.

Yep. That's pretty much it by me. I know my tabs and quickly just tab through them if the tab I want is within 4-5 tabs. If not, I'll actually go click on it.

I don't often tab between programs because most of them are just "idle" programs that I don't actually have to look at ever. A radio stream program to stream radio, AIM, and Firefox. I rarely have anything else running, but for those who use a ton of programs it's pretty useful.

My desktop is spotless. Think I'm lying? Here is a screenshot: Click here

I'm also extremely organized, nearly every one of my folders is organized very specifically as to what it is.

Here is my wallpapers folder:Click here

Here's an image showing my User folder:

As you can see. Organization is important for me as well as knowing a ton of quick keys.

Pretty much use everything you mentioned in OP except the program shortcuts, I usually never have many programs open at once. Also when I use a mouse instead of ctrl+click I mousewheel click to open tabs. Can't do that on laptop though so it's a luxury.

And I mean I guess there are a lot of shortcuts, but I think everyone knows them.

I don't know many (read: anyone) who uses run as often as I do. :s

Other than that, it's just minor shortcuts that people here and there use. My laptop has a mousewheel like thing. :p I can scroll for it but pressing Tab again is easier.

EDIT:
I made a typo on my 3rd image. D=

installed* for my Programs folder..

My desktop is also completely clear of everything, but I just use Lauchy.
I would suggest you use it also, it's much faster than using run.

It's a program that opens up programs for you (that sounds weird).
Basically, you press alt+space, and it opens up a "search bar" that works almost like Google. Start typing the program you want to open, it will know what you're trying to type. Press enter and it opens.

For instance, for me to open Firefox, I press alt+space, type "fi," and press enter. No use of mouse, no need to go to desktop.

Depends how much faster than run it is. :V Although typing a few more characters isn't going to kill me or make it THAT much faster... so it's probably not worth installing.

I used to have a batch file named all.bat and I'd just run that. :V Would open up every program I used on a daily basis.... haha... laziness. <3

Yeah, it's not a huge difference, but I like it. Probably because there's a cool-looking search bar for it. :awesome:
