Wavedashing is not as important to the developers as most would probably want it to be. That's probably because its inclusion or exclusion doesn't really affect the core gameplay of Smash. Rather, the WD (to the developer, anyway) is pretty much just a mundane detail that could be included with the snap of Sakurai's or anyone else's fingers. It's not major to the development of the game on both sides. Only those extremist fans who will not play the game if it doesn't have WD (in other words, just Dylan_Tnga) really put it above anything else as an important snippet of information. To the rest of us, every little bit of news helps because we all know that there's a lot going on behind the scenes with this game, and there's plenty of content that Sakurai/Sora will be sure to deliver.
I enjoy the current daily-update system of the website. We're actually getting news about the game, whether it's "new" or not. People around here want to see huge announcements about the game everyday, but they know that's not going to happen. Most developers don't keep a daily blog or daily update schedule like Sakurai is doing now, so I honestly believe that the fans should take as much of this in as possible. At first everyone was begging for information; now it's that we're not getting enough information.
The fans are blinded by their own desire for new character reveals and stages. Because of this, they're avoiding the fact that today's update was probably one of the most major ones yet. Think about it: here at SmashBoards everyone's been speculating about new characters, new stages, movesets, clones, the inclusion of WD, and above all, GAMEPLAY MECHANICS. Then the update comes along revealing that you can walk/run and jump while using a shooting item, and it seems to go over everyone's heads. A giant pool of potential for new item-strategies opens up and no one has anything to say because they're so caught up with the desire for more updates. It's pure, no holds barred, blinding greed.
