Major noob here, and apparent mongoloid.

A few days before the shutdown, I downloaded Project M for the first time with the sole intention of playing Geno as a character. I got the game working easy enough, but despite looking through multiple guides, I cannot for the life of me get this character to load in properly.
All of his assets load in as a horrifying mess in the shape of Rob. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Flame me up and down for posting in the wrong area, or for being a total noobler; hurt me all you want. Just please, if anyone could, explain to me what I should do exactly to get this character running. I see multiple downloads in the Brawl Vault for Geno; not sure which ones I should or shouldn't be using, and what I should exactly be doing with the files.

I'll delete this thread immediately after.

This is the perfect place for this sort of question, actually.

Post up a link to the version of Geno you want to get in. It should be labeled as a PSA. I can help more with more info. (If it doesn't let you post links just put in spaces)

lol Thank you for replying. So what should I do these files exactly?

Ok, so what you're gonna want to do is rename the files in the Moveset folder so that they match the file naming schemes for the ones in the fighter/robot folder, with FitRobot (Project M).pac replacing FitRobot.pac (You can ignore SpecialN.chr0). Then copy them over. Then copy the fixed files to the Robot folder and overwrite. This should make him function for the most part, with cosmetic changes being the leftovers.

Okay so I extracted the files using that program, and I see the Moveset folder. So I'm replacing the files in the Robot folder with these? I'm not sure which ones should renamed to what

The recolors all should be named FitRobotXX.pac or .pcs, with XX being a number from 00 to 09. The current files are oddly named (ie FitRobot00Red.pac should be FitRobot00.pac, and FitRobot00Red.pcs should be FitRobot00.pcs), so name them accordingly. If you run out of costumes before reaching 09, look up Geno recolors on the vault, there are almost certainly some lying around.

So I simply copy them in, and edit the color name out? It looks to go up to 05; I'll search for the remaining colors on the vault now. But what about the files that aren't numbered? Like FitRobotX3BlueWhite?

I should be copying and pasting everything from that Moveset folder (except for SpecialN.chr0 ?) into the Robot folder, right?

The ones with Xs seem to also be recolors, so you can add them as well. And, yes just paste them all in (Making sure that the Project M one is named FitRobot.pac, you can delete the other one they included)

All right, so the only conflicts I see now are that the 03 files and the 03OriginalBlue files will be the same name if I take away the color name

Attempted to try and load up what I had done so far. Project M won't load now. This sh*t f*ckin' sucks.

I will literally PayPal you 5 bucks if you can upload a Project M file with Geno successfully loaded into it.

I'll upload a working one for you, what version of PM are you using? That way I can set up a folder and you just copy it over your current PM build.

Btw, that Geno needs a few changes for PM, some of his moves have a long startup animation which makes them almost unusable, he's too heavy and has a few weird knockback angles. Unfortunately no one has tried to fix him, I wanted to do it, but there's always something coming up and I don't find the time...

Dude, thank you. I'm using the non-hack version on Wii.

Yeah from what I could tell from videos, he seems pretty clunky, but I just want to fulfill my childhood wish to play as Geno in some shape or form lol.

If you could implement these colors in as well, I'd appreciate it.

Also, is there a difference between the version of Geno I originally linked, and this one?

So you're using the official PM 3.6 release? I can add one recolor for every ROB model, so 9 recolors will be included. I'm a little busy at the moment, but if you don't mind waiting for 5 or so hours I'll upload it. All you'll have to do is copy the download over the clean Project M 3.6 build.
The second link contains different textures for Geno based on the Smash 3 project in this forum, they're not necessary if you're using the original Brawl textures

Edit: Ummm... you sure you want those recolors? They don't look too hot... Either way I need 2 extra colors, so I'll use the white and black ones

Oh okay; yeah I thought the Brawl textures looked a lot better. In general, the aesthetic of Brawl is the coolest of the series in my opinion lol.

But no problem at all; take your time ! Appreciate this big-time, man.

I thought that a version of him was made for Project M? Or is that what you're talking about. He always felt a little stiff to me. I would love to see somebody smooth him out a bit and balance him for PM, especially now that there are no more offical new characters coming.

There's a PM version included, but it wasn't tested at all. Quoting the uploader:
SouthCraft said:
uncluding a Project M version of the hack (which might need some polishing but im not that common with the PM PSA files).
Edit: btw it's almost done, I had a build made for PM3.5. I just need to make BPs and Stock Icons for the aditional recolors, I need to use my home PC with GIMP, though, so that may take a while

lol Yeah the black and white one seem better than nothing. Plus, I think those are the only other recolors? I don't see any other files that are specifically recolors.

Also, yes, I'm using the latest version of PM.

EDIT: Oh wait, there's this? Not sure if you can simply use these colors on the build of Geno you're implementing though.

It's on page 5 of Rob's character mods; Smithy's Puppet.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but are you making this for 3.6? I downloaded this just days before the site shut down, so I'm assuming that's the version I have.

Here it is, included is a "codes" folder with a gct file to change ROB's name and icon to "Geno" and the mushroom icon, this also chages Geno's position so he is in the first row with the rest of the Mario characters, pushin C.Falcon to the last row.

1. Extract the last official release of PM on your SD card (3.6 final, not the beta)
2. Download and extract this folder in your SD card, when it asks you if you want to overwrite choose yes:

3. Done

The PSA probably isn't bug free, so you may get random freezes sometimes

Dude thank you so much for your efforts. I appreciate this with my entire soul.

When I tried to run it though, it booted up PM, but after hitting 'Play', it took me back to Brawl?
I'm clearing my SD card, reformatting it, and going to attempt again.

Sorry, this only makes sense though, as the Computer Gods are forever working against me.

I tried it on a formated SD card before uploading, I don't know what may have caused it...
...
...are you using the homebrew version or not?

If the answer is no, try using the .gct included in your pm3.6 download, and if it works, upload the .gct so I can add the codes to change the name and icon if you want

Don't worry, it only took me 10 minutes to set it up, most of the time was spent recoloring the stock icons for the smithy and black costumes

Do you mean a CSP and BP? or something bigger?

If it's the former, I found the one I used here:
SJS' CSPs:

I recolored a stock icon for it too, but I don't have it with me right now.
You can also download the file I uploaded and extract them from there.
