Here are all my ideas for Brawl (non-character related).
We'll start with
Modes
Single-Player
Classic Mode
Same as Melee, except for a few things. The "Board the Platforms" stage needs to make a comeback, because I loved it. Also, the Metal Melee should always be You vs. Metal version of your character. Another thing would be character-specific "Race to the Finish" stages that would challenge each character's individual weaknesses. Plus, "Snag the Trophies!" should get trashed. And lastly, before you fight the Master Hand, there should be a level where you fight your characters rival. For example, you're playing as Mario, you fight Bowser. So it would be something like this:
Stage 1: Normal Melee
Stage 2: Team Melee
Stage 3: Bonus Stage - Break the Targets
Stage 4: Normal Melee
Stage 5: Giant Melee
Stage 6: Bonus Stage - Board the Platforms
Stage 7: Normal Melee
Stage 8: Multi-Man Melee
Stage 9: Bonus Stage - Race to Finish
Stage 10: Vs. Metal Self
Stage 11: Boss Battle
Stage 12: Vs. Master Hand
Adventure/Story Mode
For Adventure Mode, there's only two major changes I'd want. #1 - A story. It doesn't have to be a work of art, but just SOME type of story. #2 - Level-specific bosses. Ex. - At the end of a Hyrule level, you'd face Ganondorf. Of course, it would only work for the characters whose rivals/bosses are in the game, and obviously if you're playing as the bad guy, you wouldn't have to face yourself. Maybe if you're playing as Bowser you'd face Mario? Just a thought. So Adventure Mode would be like:
Stage 1: Mushroom Kingdom
Boss: Bowser/Mario
Stage 2: Hyrule
Boss: Ganondorf/Link
Stage 3: Zebes
Boss: Ridley/Samus
Stage 4: Dream Land
Boss: King DeDeDe/Kirby
Stage 5: Yoshi's Island
Boss: Uh..? Kamek/Yoshi?
Etc. etc.
All Star
No changes here...
New Mode: Co-Op
Same as Adventure Mode, except with 2 players. Also maybe you could play Co-Op with someone over WiiConnect24?
Multiplayer
New/Improved Melee Types
Metal Melee - Everyone is metal. Pretty self-explanatory.
Low-Grav Melee - Gravity is reduced by half, making players floaty.
High-Grav Melee - Opposite of Low-Grav.
Stamina - Same as in Melee, except customizable amounts of HP.
Custom Gametypes
Like Halo 2, you should be able to set your preferences for a match, and save it, so you don't have to keep messing with the settings every time.

Online Play
Online, 8-player brawls are a must. WiiConnect24 could be used easily to do this. Imagine you have no one to Brawl with - problem solved. You simply hit "WiiConnect24" on the Multiplayer menu, and it automatically connects you to the internet. Features wuld include buddy lists, and matchmaking similar to Xbox Live.
Other Ideas I Have
Downloadable Content
After Brawl is released, Nintendo should slowly release downloadable content (stages, skins, characters, etc.) on the Wii Shop Channel. They would only cost maybe 500 Wii Points, if that. It would be interesting.
Skins
There should be 3 "skin" options.
Smash: The menu looks like the way it did in N64 Smash.
Melee: Looks like Melee menu.
Brawl: Standard, looks like w/e the menu will look like.
Music
You should be able to unlock music from different video games to play in the background of Brawl, or be able to upload Music to your Wii using an SD card, and then stream it in the background of your Brawls. Sheer brilliance, I say.
Well, that's all I got for now. Lemme know what you think.
