GC/Wii/PS2 component cable?

I'd really like to get back to Melee and my PS2 games, but don't have a CRT handy. This cable will work for the Wii and PS2, but I have no idea about GC compatibility. Is the official, and excessively expensive, GC cable the only option for an HDTV, or can cables like the one at my above link work, too?

Don't waste your money on expensive GameCube component cables. It's smarter to just use a backwards compatible Wii to play GC games. Also, Monoprice sells Wii component cables for less than 5 dollar so order the cables from them.

I wasn't going to get the GC component cables, anyway. I'd just like to know if component cables compatible with the Wii are also compatible with the GC.

And I sold my backwards-compatible Wii in 2009 and don't want to fork out the money to get a used one... that I'd need a component cable for, anyway. Really, I just want to know if there are inexpensive options for GC component cables before I purchase the ones I linked to (which are Monoprice).

Unfortunately, no. The SNES/N64/GCN component cables are all compatible since they all use the exact same cable. But starting with the Wii Nintendo started using new cable that's no longer compatible with their older consoles.

BTW, the old standard Nintendo cables aren't expensive at all. You can get one for around six bucks: http://www.amazon.com/SNES-N64-Gamecube-Cable-Super-NES/dp/B00433XHI2

Yeah, I've got the standard cables. Just needed something for an HDTV. Guess I won't be playing Melee again any time soon. Come on, Nintendo, put GC on the eShop!

B-but, the standard cables work on HD TVs. You just have to set your TV to 3:4 mode so the game isn't stretched.

You linked to composite cables, which I already have. My HDTV has HDMI and component inputs only. I either need component cables or a converter, and I've read that component is the way to go.

Many modern TV's also support composite via the component inputs. Check your set's instruction manual to see if yours does too.
