Hey guys, I've recently started to third main Ganondorf and was looking for some pointers. All I really use to approach with Gdorf has been Flame Choke, Dash Attack and Murder Kick. I can't approach in the air very well except for the odd Fair. Can you guys give me any tips?

Don't approach from the air, unless you go for Thunderstorming. Best options are:

- Dash Attack, one of your prime killing moves, insanely fast and pretty much the best range on any dash attack. Not to mention it barges through some projectiles as well.

- Murder Kick negates rolling, but it has some lag and can be shielded against (you don't zoom past your opponent when this happens).

- Both Murder Choke and Aerial Murder Choke are good options, since you can go into techchase, which is one of Ganon's prime strengths, since he has plenty options:

Roll behind = stutter step'd fsmash, another MC or thunderstorm.
Roll away = Another MC or SH fair (if you can pull it off).
Get up attack = thunderstorm them before they hit you (takes a bit of practice, but fairly easy to do).

Or you can just follow up with a jab/standing dtilt (hold the control stick slightly down and press A, rather than all the way down) or even ftilt. You can check out the Murder Choke Breakdown for all the info on what you can and can't do.

Against big characters, you can probably get off a SH or FH nair.

Most of the time, Ganon is a more defensive player: his lag keeps him from being aggressive. He gets a lot of trouble with projectiles, so learning to power/perfect shield consistently is pretty much the best thing you can do. Out of shield, Ganon has plenty options, you can do up+b out of shield, thunderstorm, murder quake (not really a good option) or you can just drop the shield and do a Murder Choke to techchasing. Ganon relies on dealing heavy damage in just 2-3 hits and going for quick KO's with ftilt, thunderstorm, fair and Tipman spikes.

Hope this helps you out.

My friends are all very familiar with the thunderstorm (not in a good way. They've met many a grim end because of it) but because they think they know when they see it coming i like to play some mindgames on them with it. I purposely miss them with a thunderstorm, by performing it too far away from them and landing close to them. They will try to punish the miss by rushing in, but are met with a dtilt which pops them up and leads to more options. All of the dutchman's approaches will work great, but this is just one mindgame i like to play to mix it up.

Wow thanks for the tips, those are awesome, I'll be sure to consider it all next time I'm practicing.
You're welcome. Heh, your guide helped me with my Wolf, so this is the least I could do. d:

Yeah, what dlen said works, but it's not foulproof - a fast character can attack you before you hit the ground or before you do another attack.
