So, after a while, I moved this to the Light House in hopes of getting some attention for it. The Computer Cafe is pretty much a topic burial ground.

Anyway, I am sure all of you in the US have seen the commercials for it. It's a great little PC game rental service that features some awesome games like Prince of Persia (series from PoP on DOS to PoP: The Sands of Time and the other two coming soon), Myst 1-4, Golden Axe, Command and Conquer, a large amount of the genesis and game gear library, Dreamcast, arcade titles, and many others.

It's only $10 a month, and the customer service is phenomenal. There is a special going on where you buy one month, you get one free, check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I made this topic to promote awareness for a great service, dedicated and helpful staff (they helped me in a chat for 2 hours for free when I was still on my trial), and good games that you may have missed/can't find/needs a second shot. However, the commercials were so ambiguous to me that I was leary about trying it out.

Anyone else tried it out or thinking of it?

The classic titles are really well represented as free, legal roms. However, I really enjoy the big newer games and titles that are obscure, yet awesome.

Take Gunmetal. A game for PC that came out in 2004. The game was surprisingly fun, then I decided to check the setting and found them at the lowest possible ones, bumped up res and turned on anti-aliasing to 4X and now it looks amazing. And I have never even heard of this game or seen it advertised until I saw it on Gametap, then I noticed it in stores in the clearance bin.

I think with programs like Gametap, Steam, etc we will see more games that are actually good getting the attention they deserve.

Also, the great thing with Gametap is that all non-PC titles, and even some PC titles support a USB gamepad which I picked up for really cheap ($30 for a wireless Rumbleman 2, with a $10 rebate). It is nearly identical to a PS2 controller and it's quite comfortable. However, you can also use a 360 controller among a list of others.

I just hate how this service isn't getting enough press that it should as it's nearly identical to Netflix and Gamefly but with a lot more games, and much more convienent. I think it started early this year, late last year, and they are nearing a million users I was told, which is awesome to me.

EEvisu, if you, or anyone else for that matter gets it, post your username, and we can get a community of SWFers playing.

Ignoring that spammer, is anyone else interested in Gametap that actually reads this room?

Honestly, it gives you access to top-notch games and it's really easy to use.

I don't want me an EEvisu the only SWFers playing on this.

Hey guys, just updating on some new stuff to Gametap.

Among other things, Rainbox Six series, Farcry, and a few others were added recently. Also, Gametap is now available in Canada in a limited capacity (ie not as many games but give them time).

Also, the first of their Originals has been released, the long awaited Sam and Max Episode 1. Uru Online is the next one to come out from them.

Finally, they have two specials going on. 1. if you sign up soon, you can get a year for only $59.99 as opposed to the current $10 a month. 2. If you sign up now you get a month free.

They have also added a suggestion box, revamped the game screen and added some better online services for classics.

More vibes, please.

Myst Online: Uru Live Beta went online today. It's an MMO version of Myst that you get if you are a member of Gametap. Once the game is completed (should be either next week or week after) you can get it separate for $9.99 a month and you get Gametap included.

Alright, on May 31st, Gametap released version 3.0. With that version, a ton of new stuff happened.

Now, there are 3 versions of Gametap - Green, Lite, and Gold.
Green members get to play games completely free (around 10 of them) on the website.
Lite members download the client and get 40 games free.
Gold members pay $10 a month (or an equivalent) and get over 900 games a month.

This link shows the current free games for the now, they rotate and change out constantly:
http://www.gametap.com/home/play/free.html

Also, the following games/franchises are coming to Gametap:
Hitman (1-4), Legacy of Kain, Tomb Raider (Legacy and Anniversary are online), Thief, Total Overdose, Just Cause, and Bloodrayne. Myst Online is currently live and updated monthly/bi-monthly. In the next few months, Gametap will also add games from Derek Smart and American McGee (McGee will be doing 24-episodic games based on the Brothers Grimm stories. McGee did Alice). Also, Gametap has added a store so you can purchase any title (and those not yet in the store) for a fee. The game is yours forever, you can mod it, play it online, play it when the net is down (you have to have Broadband access for Gametap to play other games) whatever really.

I am trying to make this service get some notoriety because I think digital distribution is the future of gaming and this service will become the new Blockbuster.
