Gameshark 2... any suggestions?

I need sopme suggestions of what might be wrong with my gameshark 2 for PS2. I'm thinking there might be compatibility issues. My gameshark disc has trouble loading. Then when I finally get it to load, it sits there on the black screen with a disc in the top right corner. This disc is supposed start spinning, but no matter how long I wait it won't spin.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm thinking this might be compatibility issues. This was designed for the original PS2 and I am using a slimline version. Could this be an issue? Please give suggestions.

It must be your disc. I have the gameshark 2 and it works fine for me. Have you tried cleaning it? Do you have a memory card in as well? I thought it was silly that it didn't work with slot b like the GCN AR, but I digress.

Yes I have a memory card, but it isn't a sony brand card. I tried cleaning it but nothing improved.
