Smash Wii U Gamepad VS GC Controller?

I've always used the Wii U Gamepad, and for a while I've contemplated getting the GC controller connector thingy, but I don't exactly know if it's worth getting.

Is using a GC controller better than the Gamepad? I'm not particularly going for any super-high-level tournament play, but I would like to improve in what little ways I can, and I've always seen people saying that GC controller is the best for Smash.

Also, are the 3rd party GC adapters okay, or should I buy an official one?

Just depends on what you are comfortable with. If you are happy with gamepad, then stick with it.

I recommend a Pro Controller since it is easier on the hands and has significantly more battery life and lower consumption. Plus you can play it plugged in your console if you really wanted to.

I think that it all comes down to personal preference. After all, it really doesn't matter what controller you use because your controller won't make you better or worse at the game than someone else. Like Cyndane said, just stick to what you're comfortable with.

I wouldn't use the Gamepad, it feels awkward for me. I'd definitely recommend the GC Adapter, although I find the analog stick to be rough on my thumb, and I don't have any money to buy a Pro Controller.

Even if you aren't going for "super-high-level tournament play", if you aspire to any level of tournament play you might at least want to swap to the Pro Controller, just because a lot of tournaments don't allow the Gamepad.

Past that, though, it's really up to you. I prefer the Gamecube controller, but I've been using it for its lifespan. The Pro Controller is a very nice alternative, and the Gamepad is very similar, though personally I don't care for its size.

One of my main concerns is that the Gamepad doesn't have the little....rivets? Divots? around the control stick area that the GC controller has. It's just a smooth circle, so you can't feel when you're hitting the diagonals and sides. (for stuff like DI)

I was also wondering about the different placement of the 2nd control stick, though...I don't particularly use it. At all. I suppose that's another question for another thread, though.

Well, you can use whatever, but if you use the Gamepad, you'll have to send it to repairs a lot..... After ten months of Smash, my gamepad is already wearing out..... I had to buy a Wii U Pro Controller. Gamepad seems like it's okay enough for me to use in most games, MK8 and SSB4 being the exceptions
