Gamecube Controllers?

I was looking on eBay for gamecube controllers... here were my options:

"$8, New in box" or "$90, Gently Used, no box"

....

I'm confused.

Can anyone tell me which controller is the best and which one i should buy? (I'm a little low on dough though)

(P.S wtf is a wavebird?)

Thanks!

If it's 8 dollars, it might not be an official licensed nintendo controller. Make sure to compare the pictures since you don't want a cheap faulty one. 90 dollars for the other one is definitely way too high, I wouldn't even touch that one. You can get a new one for 30 dollars on Amazon, so don't go higher than that if you're looking for one on ebay.

A wavebird is the wireless gamecube controller released way back. It runs on AA batteries and it's not too bad.

I'd settle for a wired one if you're looking for a controller for Smash.

Yeah. I have 4 wavebirds and didn't notice the input lag (on a CRT) at all until I got to a decent competitive level. Also, the batteries last FOREVER.

About a year ago, a friend of mine accidentally left one on after we were done playing. I realized it was still on about 2 days later, turned it off, and it still lasted another couple months with decent use without needing a battery replacement.

Just another note: never bring a Wavebird to a tournament if you have another option. If someone else is using a wavebird at the same tournament and is on the same channel (there are 16 of them), the signals will get jumbled and you will be receive both controllers' inputs on your receiver.

Wavebirds are the wireless ones. The wired ones are easier to get and are cheaper too, but if you don't have an adapter for the wii u, they can be pricey.

Yeah and now they have different styles now too. You can get a black or white smash emblem one or a white one with the gamecube logo. Either way, they both have long cords and work great.
