Gamecube Controller problem

Hi Guys

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I am having with my gamecube controller. I have had this for 4 years now and it still is really good except 1 problem. When i press the r trigger to shield, 1/3 chance it when i let go it keeps holding it and its very frustrating when I parry and want to punish, it keeps holding shield and I i will have to press the r trigger again and let go for it to stop. I have some footage here of rocket league i know its not smash but it demonstrates it perfectly. When i press r the car goes forward. Sometimes it goes forward after i let go. The adapter is not the problem if you were wondering, I have tried this gamecube controller on my wii and it gets the same problem while playing melee. So do I have to get a brand new controller or can i some how repair it.

P.S Its not a physical problem the r trigger is normal

If the part that connects the R trigger to the board gets stuck in the down position after the spring depresses, that could be it. But you'd have to open it up to check. Otherwise it could be an electronic issue.

If it were me I'd probably just get another one if I could.

I don't think it's a spring issue, I'd bet dust or dirt is falling into the slider that moves the shield and pressing agin clears it a way. Or they're just a little sticky, maybe light greasing is needed.

@OP, the shielding mechanism is basically a pin on a slider that is locked into a hole on the trigger, so it'd be unheard of for the pin to fall out of the trigger. I'd say open your controller and clean it out. Also if you supply a pic of the internal board we could be further help.

Opening and putting a controller back together is very simple. There are 6 screws on the back side, 5 should be triwing, 1 should be a phillips. Take those out and the shell will separate.
This article has some awesome pics that explain how the triggers work: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+GameCube+Controller+Triggers+Replacement/12585
