Hello Smashboards roamers. First time poster here.

I recently reinstalled Project M onto my SD Card for play on the Nintendo Wii. Before, I had no problems with wavedashing in Project M; however, I noticed that after I reinstalled Project M onto my SD Card, washdashing became a hard thing to do. For me to wavedash, I have press all the way down my L and R triggers, but in the past I was able to lightly press down on the L and R triggers and my dodge would be inputted. It's really annoying to not be able to be fluid while playing without putting so much work into pressing the L and R triggers. Anybody know how to fix this?

You were playing with the wifi codeset in the past. The full codeset requires a full press for triggers.

So that's how Project M would be played in tournaments, right? Is there a way around this or should I just get used to this kind of thing and deal with it?

Yes, that's how the game is played in tournament, and yes, you should just get used to it. There are no workarounds.

Thanks so much for the info! I'll definitely be working on getting used to this.

One last question though: Is this the same with Melee? I've only played Melee on Dolphin with a GC Controller adapter and I only had to press lightly to wavedash, too.

You probably have your controller configured wrong because its like that too in melee too. Make sure your L/R are set to BUTTONS while L/R analog are set to AXIS.

I've had the same problem. On Wii it's the build. Like Xermo said you are probably on WiFi or something is wrong with the build you have on your SD card. On Dolphin, your controller is 100% not set up correctly. Set it up like how Y-L says.

An easy hack you can do to your GC controller is to remove the spring below each trigger. That way, you don't have to deal with the upward force they exert, which in turn might make the button presses softer? Give it a try. AFAIK, it's a "street legal" modification.

Just don't remove the springs of both triggers if you plan on playing Melee, since you won't be able to light shield or soft-press L-cancel using a trigger with a removed spring (these features may also be added to Project M later; they are only missing due to technical restrictions).

Personally I've removed the spring in the right trigger of my white controller (which I use exclusively for airdodges) but retained the spring in the left trigger (which I use for everything else). I have no need for the analog function of the right trigger, so there are only advantages to removing it; the reduced pressure needed to press the trigger is very significant when playing Luigi I think (especially with the stiffer triggers in white controllers).

Thanks so much for the information! I'm getting used to wavedashing this way now. It's just a thing I need to adapt to. I don't think I'll plan to remove any of the springs in my triggers, but it's interesting to know that you could do that while being "legal".
