GameCube Controller, Noob?

Hey guys,
Since I just started getting into SSBB not long ago, I was wondering if the GC Controller is considered "newb" and cheap due to the C-stick function? Are GC controllers allowed at MLG competitions? I just started so I wanna know because I don't need a bunch of friends flaming me.

Uh... One quick question, what is the function of the C-stick? I've always thought that it allows you to do "smash" attacks. Or does it also allow you to do tilt attacks?

By default, it does smash attacks. You can set it to do specials, tilts, etc in the Control Mapping.
