Hello all.

I just got a brand new spiffy MacBook Pro.

so... quick question, what is the best way to capture feed from your TV with a mac?
is game bridge still compatable, might there be something better?

I dont have an HDTV.
the Wii has a USB connector.

might there be a way do record directly from the Wii to the computer while bybassing the poor quality of my TV?

any general info on what to buy and how to get started would be verry helpful.

once I get the actual matches on my mac im sure i can figure iMovie out.

Thank you for your time.

I don't have any personal experience with mac tv capture, but given what toymachine said the XLR8 does not sound like a good buy.

Does the phrase "bypassing the poor quality of my TV" means not using the component/s-video/composite cable leaving the wii? If so, then no, you must capture from that cable. Also the usb connectors on the wii are only good for ethernet, keyboards or powering usb devices; they won't be any help.

[edit]
Okay, found what is probably another analog input usb device for the mac, Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac, has the same lag as the other one.

If you do decide to buy the tv-in device you'll probably need to split the video so it'll be playable from the tv while you record on the computer since there's lag with the recording devices.

Edit: I bit the bullet and bought this adapter recently. I have to say that I'm impressed with it. I have only used it in Linux, but from what I hear most Vista users have had no problem with the device, AND it's capable of atsc digital broadcast receiving! I've edited somethings below, but the post is mostly the same. A video I recorded is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OilqJ_A6L2g, though I'm afraid this upload didn't do the quality of the original video justice thanks to youtube's default transcoding. I'll upload another video once I've figured out a way to transcode the video myself so it looks better on youtube.

I found something that I'm interested in getting. I'm a Linux user, but this affects Mac users as well (see below).

You'll need a separate piece of hardware called an rf modulator to convert the rca connectors from your Wii to an analog coaxial signal.
Scratch that!!!! While it doesn't look like it, the adapter comes with an RCA and S-video input dongle!

Here's something you can get at radio shack to do that if you don't have an old VCR that can do it lying around: http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...f+converter&kw=rf+converter&parentPage=search

I'm primarily interested in getting the HVR-950 because the web page above shows how to get the adapter to work in Linux (which is what I'm interested in because, afaict, NO ONE has gotten the gamebridge to work with Linux). However, look at the bottom of the following page:

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_eskape.html

It looks like there's a piece of software you can get for the mac that will make this particular adapter work on it, which means video capture.

I saw this particular adapter on sale at my local radio shack for $60. In fact, here's the product on their website:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2648707&cp

If this can be made to work, it sounds like it would be a sure bet for Mac users.

Edit: Urgh! That EyeTV software for macs is $80 :-s. Adds quite a high price to the total package for mac users: http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/buy.en.html#software
