What game modes can be improved? Which ones can we do without? Which ones can we add?

NEW/BIG CHANGES

Player Profiles
  • Replaces Names function
  • Create profile that you choose each time you start playing.
  • Records vs/solo/online records as you play.
  • Player profiles pictures are taken with gamepad
  • Keeps track of your favourite character, stages, favourite game modes, online records
  • Default profile is used with Nintendo ID, can add others
  • Create your own 5 character name key that shows up above your character
  • Option to turn off name display during vs/solo matches, but still records the data
  • Create save data for the preferred start up game mode type for vs matches.
Miiverse/Smash Channel
  • Area dedicated solely to Smash fun.
  • Weekly picture challenges where you must submit some kind of picture for a chance to win a stamp or trophy.
  • Replay challenges where they ask for a certain task to be completed with winners getting stamps or trophies.
  • Option to post picture and replays to others.
  • View Homerun and other stadium records.
  • Various challenge modes where you compete for the best score (sort of like Rayman Legends Challenge App)

Online
  • Now has different lobbies.
  • Options to choose from stock, time, or other specific game modes.
  • Lobbies within those for item matches, no item matches.
  • Link to the tournament mode option where you can register for tournaments with different game modes and rules.
  • Tournament mode has an interactive waiting area between matches where your player can run around with all the other waiting players and attack each other, beat up a sandbag, or view other players records and picture/replays. Or even spectate and bet on ongoing matches within the tournament.
  • Player profile complete with scores for victories, defeats, total damage and more. Wins generate overall point total, tournament wins adding more.
  • You are paired with players in your point range.

Adventure
  • Brawl/Melee hybrid mode.
  • Follow a set story line where you travel from Smash characters universes and fight them, do some kind of challenge unique to their area, and sometimes fight a boss, then move onto the next one.
  • Final boss could be Crazy Hand and Master Hand, a character franchise boss, Giga Bowser, or a unique boss. Can't decide right now.
  • No matter what character you choose, it's always the same story and starts at the same point.
  • Each character has a short introduction video at the beginning of starting that depicts them getting ready to join the Adventure.
  • Everyone fights themselves like they are a different character. (ie playing as Mario does not disrupt the Mario franchise storyline)
  • Every character treats you like an evil intruder.
  • Characters you defeat join your team only in their franchise area. You cannot fight as them, but you can have one be your partner. Starts off with the first character you unlocked. When a character dies, they are gone for good, and replaced if you have any other characters befriended from that franchise.
  • You then fight a final boss or do some sort of challenge at the end of the area. Once completed you are sent to another area to do the same sort of thing again.
  • Franchises with only one rep will have shorter areas.
  • Mario, Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Starfox, Metroid, Pokemon, Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem having the bigger areas. Sonic and Mega Man and any other 3rd party character having special areas.

Stamps
  • Replace stickers.
  • Can be unlocked or found randomly.
  • Can be used exclusively to the Smash Miiverse channel to post in your messages.

Multiplayer Game Modes
  • King of the hill mode where a certain area of the map becomes highlighted and characters need to stay in that area to be rewarded points.
  • A capture the flag mode where a neutral flag is dropped on the course and players get points for holding onto it. It acts like a green shell where you cannot use A moves without throwing it, making it more challenging to hold onto it.
  • Create saved preferences for the initial start up game mode.

In Game Dojo

  • Information area showcasing and explaining all the character moves, techniques, items, game modes, stage elements and anything else
  • elements of the Dojo become available when you unlock the certain element
  • Character profiles are unlocked once you complete classic mode with them
  • Item profiles are unlocked when they are used in battle
  • Stages are available once you've played on the stage
  • techniques, game modes and anything else are unlocked through completing various game modes and challenges.

Stage Builder

  • Complete overhaul of the mode.
  • More customization options.
  • More freedom with gamepad.
  • No cap space for placing object.
  • Unlockable objects to use.
  • Less "generic" background options.
  • Multiple music tracks.

RETURNING

All-Star
  • Works similar to like it did in Brawl.
  • This time you do not go to the rest area after every franchise.
  • You battle around 5 or 6 franchises in a row before having the option to go to the rest area.
  • This will speed up gameplay and difficulty for this regularly tedious mode.

Classic
  • Returns like in the similar fashion to Brawl.
  • Random order of characters you fight along your journey.
  • You don't fight the whole roster in one play through.
  • Many options return like giant battles, teams, Multi Man hordes, metal battles, trophy collection, break the targets, board the platforms, race to the finish and finally a battle with Master Hand.
  • This mode still unlocks the main trophy for the character.
  • Can be played in co-op.

Challenges
  • Similar to how they appear in Brawl.
  • Some challenges are strictly in game.
  • You are having a vs mode battle, a star rod appears, a challenge bar then appears at the bottom of the screen that says "KO opponent with Star Rod!"
  • Completion of this task will unlock something.

Event Mode
  • More interesting event ideas.

My Music
  • This was a great feature, no reason for it not to return.
  • Hoping that there is an even bigger database of songs this time around.

Replays
  • Need to be longer than 3 minutes.
  • Have rewind, fast forward control.
  • Ability to upload to Smash Channel and Miiverse.

Pictures
  • Camera needs to have more freedom throughout the map.
  • Gamepad can be used to take pictures during matches without disrupting gameplay.
  • Pictures can be saved into a photo album and uploaded to the channel/Miiverse.
  • Daily Miiverse challenge pictures will become a thing.

Break the Targets
  • Returns with individual character stages.
  • Puts more emphasis on mastering each character in order to complete their stage the fastest.
  • Online leaderboard for times.

Board the Platforms
  • Returns with individual character stages.
  • Puts more emphasis on mastering each character in order to complete their stage the fastest.
  • Online leaderboard for times.

Race to the Finish
  • Returns with individual character stages.
  • Everyone would choose Sonic if it was the same stage.
  • Need to get from each checkpoint within certain time limit
  • Online leaderboard for times.
  • Option to race other players/ghost times.

Trophies
  • Great feature that need to remain unchanged.

Vs. Records
  • Return in the same way.
  • Maybe include more information like favourite stages, most used attack, favourite item
  • Can be viewed with each individual character profile, or the Smash save data as a whole
  • Have all character records on one page with options to zoom in. Easier to go through and see which characters have how many KO's when they are all on the screen at once (like 64)

Rotation
  • Never used this function.
  • Cool addition for friends who like to argue about who gets to play next.
  • No reason not to keep it.

Tournament
• Online mode with a central waiting area hub where fighters can run around beating up on other players or sandbags while waiting for matches. Incorporate a way to view other players info and have picture/replay sharing options.
  • This area needs to be exciting enough that people don't get bored and leave while waiting for their matches.
  • Miiverse/Smash Channel hosted tournaments where winners get rare stamps/trophies

Special Brawl
  • Needs to return with a lot more options.
  • Especially an option that only allows items to damage players.

Boss Battle
  • Needs to return if bosses return to adventure mode.

Homerun Contest
  • Great mode, needs to return like it was in Brawl.
  • Now with an online leaderboard for the furthest hit, furthest with each character, and a combined record.

Multi Man
  • Need more interesting options.
  • A tower defence mode where you must defend an area from continuous waves of fighters would be cool.

Training Mode
  • Return the same.

NOT RETURNING

Masterpieces/Chronicles
  • Great addition, but they need to go.
  • Took up way to much development time.
  • They just need to market these games in the Virtual Console with Smash somehow.
  • Chronicles were a cool database, but Nintendo should just make an official one and not rely on Smash.

Coin Launcher
  • Was fun for a bit, but very tedious.
  • Lottery was too boring of a way to collect trophies.
  • They need to create some new Snag the Trophy mode.

Stickers
  • Can do without them.
  • They were kind of pointless and not really even necessary for Subspace Emissary completion.
  • Cool addition to show off more characters, but generally useless.
  • Easily replaced by stamps

Coin Battles
  • Does anyone seriously prefer this mode over stock or time?

I know you all are creative and have great ideas. Let's here em!

This is an awesome thread. Spreading the word and watching.

I agree with all of the things you're cutting. Replacing Stickers with Stamps is genius.

This is meant to be a creative thread!
I know Smashboards has some creativity in them.

I really like the Stamp replacing Stickers idea.
I'm sure plenty of people on here could care less about stamps, or even know what they are.
But they were a lot of fun in 3D World and NES Remix.
Mixing that with the Windwaker HD picture taking ability could create a great Miiverse presence.

my dream is for a real good online mode basically everything you said about the online feature plus like a ranking system for both singels and doubles, giving players symbols next to their names symbolizing their ranks and a battle points system would be good too. btw the only wii game to have a good online system was mario strikers charged it had ranked and private lobbys wins/ losses were displayed and u accumalated points by winning rank matches and you were given a set rank

This is what I'm hoping for.
And with the recent newsflash to Nintendo that they should be keeping up with the current trends of their consumers, it doesn't seem that farfetched anymore.

Every Smash game has years of replay-ability with friends, just imagine how long this game can strive with a healthy online environment.

I think it would be great if you could turn off the snap-grid in Stage Builder and slide pieces more freely. I'd also want to be able to change the stages' height and width independently, or change the aesthetic theme without having to start all over. Since the Wii U and 3DS both have touch screens, there's no sense not to use those either. Lastly, player spawn points should be placed. I'm imagining a red 1P icon, a blue 2P icon, so on and so forth, that you must position on a static platform for fairness reasons.

I certainly hope they do make Adventure mode a hybrid of Melee/Brawl. As you said, it should focus on Nintendo worlds and characters, but it should be more expanded than the Melee version.

I would love that!

Otherwise, personally I hope they make the rest of the single-player modes less bland than they were in Brawl. In Melee, they were diverse because... Take Classic Mode for example, you were not set to facing characters from certain franchises at levels (IIRC) and most importantly you didn't face the same types of matches/challenges more than once in the same run. Each character also had their own Break the Targets and Board the Platforms.

Call me crazy, but I used to like to run through the Classic Mode on Melee. Beating it with every character was fun, but in Brawl it was just a chore.

Brawl's Classic mode was a mess. No minigames, 15 levels that took way too long to beat, it just sucked.

Melee's 11 stages was a million times better.

I would like to have an Adventure Mode with branching paths and Tabuu as a secret boss.
The Charcter i want as a secret boss is Hades..he would be such a fun boss battle in my opinion. I want to see some secret boss batles in Classic mode that are fought on certain conditions

Another thing I would like to see with My music is to have unlockable songs that can be played on any stage.

Putting Tetris A Type or Call into the Night on FD would have been so cool.

I hope that if we get a Stage Builder this time, that it has way more parts and backgrounds.
Seriously, why was that thing so bare-bones?

I'm thinking:

New Hazards: Water, Lava, Bumpers, Tilting platforms, electric platforms.
Platform options: Multiple colours and textures, "body" platforms that have intricate designs and are supposed to be main platforms.

Other: Background elements, scrolling stages, being able to place parts closer, and to have some overlap.

Honestly i have a feeling they might end up removing Stage Building..i don't expect Smash WiiU to have as much content as Brawl..but it will still have loads of content like Melee..

Troll God mode. Someone uses the Game Pad and plays as an overseer, controlling stage hazards and item drops. Add four players and let the pure rage lulz ensue.

I don't care if the matchmaking rankings are visible or not, I don't want to bee placed with people way below or above my level.

What about instead of replacing stickers with stamps, the stickers ARE the stamps? In game they can be used as colorful stickers and have the same function as they did in Brawl (minus their use for Adventure Mode, possibly), while for Miiverse they can be used pretty much like the stamps you know and love from Mario 3D World and NES Remix.

Also, a much more robust Stamina mode would be cool. It was nice that it was more customizable in Brawl, but it still lacked something; it's just got missed potential. And yeah I'm not that big a fan of Coin matches either, but they were somewhat entertaining once in a while, and I'd like to see it still make a return. My biggest wish for a new mode though is simply online Tournament mode. Every match in a single round could pretty much be played simultaniously, and the following round won't start until the former is completed. That's what I'd like to see.
