Game freezes at stage selection

I have recently started having an issue in which the game freezes at the stage selection screen during multiplayer. This happens whether or not Project M is actually running, so long as the SD card is in the system. Now, this started happening when I brought the card over to a friend's house. I carried the card over in the case, held in one of those plastic clips used for the instruction manual. Is it possible that this damaged the SD card, or should I just re-install Project M?
