Many people have always preached that gaining control over the center of the stage is very important. While I do agree with this, I can't really think of any reasons why it truly is important.

Exactly why is gaining control over the center so important? What mental and practical advantages does it yield?

Basically if you have stage control you have more safe and better options.

Centre stage is the furthest distance from the edge, and therefore the blast zone. You arent pressured and losing options in the centre like you are if you are on the ledge, or having to recover which makes you predictable.

It's literally the furthest away from death, think of it like you are driving on a road in a race on a 5 lane road and on either side is a fiery pit, you'd want to stay in the centre wouldnt you?

Its actually important to gain control of center stage because it just safer. If your in control, your basically making your opponent play your game, making it harder on him and more comfortable on you when it come to set ups and mind games

When you have center stage, you have more leeway to move back and forth than your opponent. You can pressure them to move back, or alleviate pressure from yourself by moving back when they advance. When you're pushed to the edges of the stage, you can't retreat backwards (unless you're doing it in the air), giving your opponent more options against you. Controlling center stage is less about occupying the exact center, and more about the freedom to move around the center while minimizing your opponent's ability to do the same.

Being at the edge prevents you from retreating.

Being at the center does
You could jump off stage but you'll put your self at a bad position, only recomended if you know what your doing, because you'll get punished
