Just in case you were thinking about buying one to be a co-op friend.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfsCQ7Gs4c8#t=4m29s

You can play locally with a friend but not with an Amiibo according to this video. That was kind of the whole reason I was going to buy one: trainable AI character to play co-op with me since I assume said co-op modes won't be online. That's extremely disappointing.

This video points out one use for them is to set up long matches and let the Amiibo fight CPUs and earn you items while you don't play. So there's that I suppose.

Not to sound ungrateful, but really nintendo? First you say we can only use amiibos on one game file, and now this? I guess Amiibos are more or less glorified collectibles.

That is a HUGE bummer!! That would've been really cool...

At least my wallet will be happier.

It would have been a nice addition, but I shall not mourn over a feature I was never promised to begin with. Besides, it's more fulfilling when you have friends or family alongside you accomplishing those co-op modes. Not a loss for me but it will certainly be that way for many I suspect. Still looking forward to purchasing most of the Amiibo's

I guess they don't want you to "cheat" your way to victory with the single player game modes.
I think it has more to do with the AI not being able to handle certain things. I can understand not using them in Event mode since those can sometimes have complicated victory conditions, and I think the main thing preventing them in something like Classic is sadly Master Fortress. Not a fan of the Fortress as part of the boss fight to begin with, but I don't see the Amiibo doing well there with platforming.

Oh well. This was more of a PSA for people who might have thought the product would do something that it's not going to.

It's nice if you have people who can come over and play locally. My life, and my friends' lives, just aren't that simple any more. I was hoping Amiibo might be R.O.B. 2.0. Sadly, they're not.

They never said anything about this, I never expected this to be a feature seeing as they had nothing to say about it. You can get at them for not putting in a feature they promised, but I don't see the point in complaining about personal assumptions not being true.

I'm certainly not blaming them. Again, it's more of a PSA to make sure no one's going to buy these with expectations that they do something they're not going to do. And I think it's a rather big missed opportunity on their part.

Yeah, I'm very blessed in that regard due to the fact that most of my friends live either two hours away or live in the same town as I do. As for my family, most of them live close by and pretty much all of them, except for my parents and one brother, are into video games, and I have a pretty large family. I do feel some sympathy towards those who wanted they're Amiibo's to fight by they're side in Classic or All-Star mode, but I suspect most will get over this once they start playing the game for themselves. It would have been a nice feature but alas, it's not a major loss, at least in my opinion. Of course, I'm rather bias given my circumstances, but even if I wasn't so fortunate, I'd still be fine with just using them only Smash battles. I will say it's a missed opportunity, and I swore I heard GameXplain say otherwise, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's disappointing but I think most people will get over it eventually and it all be an afterthought.

Rats, I was hoping I'd be able to do this. Looks like I get to do All-Star mode another 50+ times. Ugh.

You can't give Amiibos too much power.

If you do, they'll develop AI so advanced they'll begin to plan taking over humanity.

Just look at them.

I am still impressed by Amiibo, they actually seem to learn your quirks, especially, ESPECIALLY if you train them in Mirror Matches

I don't know why people expected Amiibo to work as Co-Op buddies in Solo modes.

You do realise Event Matches often have conditions too specific for something like that, right? For example, recall the Co-Op event in Brawl, where, as Ice Climbers and Meta Knight, you and a friend had to take out a Yoshi Team - in a specific, colour coded order.

How would Events like that work with Amiibo? No matter how smart Amiibos are at general fighting, programming them for stuff like Event Matches would be a totally separate thing.

There's no reason that I can see that they couldn't work in Classic or All-Star mode though.

Co-Op All-Star fails both players if one dies.

Don't know if Classic does the same thing in Co-Op but if it does, there you go.

You must also remember that the amiibo's AI might not be able to properly adapt to handling Master Hand's assaults, let alone Master Core's.

If anyone remembers Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby's helper is very reckless when handling mid-bosses and bosses, and as such, it gets itself slaughtered quite easily against the more powerful bosses like Masked Dedede, Wham Bam Jewel, Galacta Knight, and Marx Soul.

Hmm... what about All Star then? No bosses or crazy fight conditions there, and the guy in the video did mention it; he only specifically mentioned "Challenges" (which must mean Events) and Classic. Maybe that one is available, but at this point I'm guessing Amiibos can only fight in standard multiplayer mode.

I've never played that version of the game. But I have played the SNES original, called Kirby's Super Star. it was called Kirby's Fun Pack in the PAL regions. And what you say is true for the original. I used the helpers for fun but never seriously.

The only time I kept a helper I wanted seriously was so I could swap back to the ability I wanted in the meta knight fight. The fight forces you to dunk Kirby's ability and pick up the sword. But after that's picked up you can dump the sword and destroy the helper and take it's ability.

All-Star forces both players to fail if only one does, as I said before. This would make playing it in Co-Op with the AI require a different mindset.

On top of that, customs are not allowed in All-Star, and Amiibos are basically custom-oriented. And even if you didn't customise your Amiibo, it's still unfair to have the game make that distinction and allow you to use yours in All-Star mode, because not everyone buying the game and the Amiibos will be aware of this distinction.

These are all good points, the problem is they don't result in me getting to use my Amiibos to grind through Classic mode and All-Star more quickly.

Classic Mode has Master Fortress which is a platforming section which the Amiibo will probably fail badly.
All-Star Mode has the break room. Getting to heal could have some problems associated with it. For example, the Amiibo could run over the teleporter if it tries to grab a heart container.(This is me going off of the Brawl layout though where the Heart Containers were behind the teleporter and the teleporter was on the ground. I might be wrong.)

The teleporter is on a raised platform in the Wii U version. It was shown briefly in the 50 Facstravaganza
