this may be a strange question, but im currently struggling the most with this. Im a player currently struggling to learn reading my opponent and fundamentals of the game. i have trained alot in techskill and have most of it down pat. so can anyone give me some advice/tips on how i can improve my fundamentals and how to read my opponent? it would be greatly appreciated!

lt'll really help if you say who you main. But generally, you want to dance around your opponent via DD, WD, WL, SH, to threaten his space without really committing. Forcing them to retreat or whiff an attack.
Punish a whiff or gain stage control.

It's better to react than to predict. So pay attention to their bad habits and punish accordingly. You can also peek at their controller to spy on their DI.

I am going to take a random guess and say that while you think you might have your tech skill down you actually have a long ways to go. Tech skill is pretty vast and you would be surprised what you might be lacking in. Can you punish someone for attacking your shield while you are on a platform by doing a Shield drop (not once in awhile, but almost all the time)? Or how about being able to punish someone for giving you a very small opportunity to retaliate with a good punish? Perhaps people grab you on shield because you are not precise enough to get the movement in the air before using an aerial. All sorts of stuff can be worked on.

Is reading your opponent necessary? If you look at the overall strategy of making reads you are sort of gambling. If you make this read yes, you are good. But, some percentage of the time this will lead to mistake and turn against you. Perhaps a better strategy is taking the path that minimizes your moments of punishment and maximizes your own punishments.

Other than that I am not sure what more to say.
