We all know that fox's down air is an excellent combo starter. landing with the move sets up for good grounded attacks, while the full hop down air combos into aerials. but the problem is that its hard to land only the final hit of the full hop down air, which can make the combo starter unreliable. but using full hop down air with platforms easily solves this problem.
What you have to do is perform a full hop down air right underneath a platform(it'll work with battlefield, haven't tested other stages yet). this should be your go-to option when attacking someone as they're on a platform. the move does 11%, and if done right, it'll combo into all his aerials, his tilts(not d tilt), and more.
sorry i don't have a video to showcase this, but ill just list some basic combos with the full hop dair onto the battlefield platform:
LOW PERCENT! Dair into...
jab, f/up tilt, up/f smash, grab(?), all aerials(u air has to be short hopped), AND FOOTSTOOL!(more on this later)
the higher percent you go, the more limited your combo options are(duh). but as for mid percents, only aerial moves will connect.
full hop dair on platforms can also set up for KO's. at around 100% or slightly higher, dair can true combo into up air or bair(up air only connects with bad DI). With customs on, you can do down air to wolf flash and net the spike!
you can also auto cancel the down air with a good timed ledgehop, but thats less reliable.
how would you set up the down air?
there are quite a few ways you can do this. you can use your up throw to force a landing, which more likely than not will be on a platform(i use this trick a lot. up throw is underrated!). Also you can punish missed techs with the full hop down air. Using up tilt, down tilt, or falling up air WILL TRUE COMBO into the full hop down air.
neat little trick(s):you can extend your down air combos with the top battlefield platform. Simply do down air>down air(while moving towards the top platform)>any move you want to use. thisll add another 11% to your combo, and put your foe in a worse position. Another thing, down air>fast fall fair is also guaranteed, which is good for setting up jab locks!
FOOTSTOOLING!
fox can get a guaranteed footstool out of down air onto the battlefield platform. your only option after the footstool is to reset with a sour spot nair as you land.(this does 17%). from there you have several options. thats all up to personal preference. a couple things you could do after this are:
another dair>footstool, dair>fair>up air, up tilt juggles, etc.
I also discovered a zero to death combo on mewtwo using down air footstool! (full hop dair onto platform>footstool>sourspot nair reset)X2>sour spot nair(to make mewtwo slide off the platform)>sour spot nair+f tilt(to reset)>falling up air>double jump up air(to auto cancel on the top battlefield platform)>another up air for the ko.
i encourage you to try out full hop dair onto platforms. its an excellent combo starter that can be applied to anyone's game. tell me what you find with this technique as well, as I'm open to anyone's ideas. Good luck in the lab, fellow fox mains!
EDIT:I'VE DISCOVERED MORE DEATH COMBOS USING THIS TRICK! I don't think i'll list them here though.
