From TV to Digital Camera

I was recording some matches of my friends and I and ran into a major problem when we were recording. I plugged used the moniter out feature of my tv and started recording directly to my digital camera. However, every time we played on a stage with a lighter colored backround then black (yoshi story, dreamland 64, and FD when the background changes to a lighter color) the digital camera does not capture it and starts to fritz out.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this?
