Sup guys.
I have played all the major 3d console Zeldas now and finished all of them except WW where I cannot be bothered to collect the triforce pieces.
I replayed TP last weekend and it was damn amazing, but I guess it's finally time for me to try the 2d Zeldas. Some ppl say they are better, but you rarely hear from them since OoT is there to take all the attention away. What would be the best game to start with?
I once tried A Link to the Past but I didn't like it. I only played for like an hour though so I didn't really get a proper image of that game.

I need something to do for summer you know... :awesome:

Didn't find a social thread or anything here(we totally should have a social here) so I posted a new topic so don't be mad.

We had a social, but it is closed. No social threads in rooms like LoZ, the Poké Center, Mario Universe, etc. It's okay to make threads about subjects like this.

Link's Awakening is a fantastic 2D Zelda game, and is hailed by many to be the best of its kind. I believe it's downloadable on the 3DS.

Pretty much what everyone said and I loved Zelda 1 and 2 plus their the first games in the series so you should definitely play those.

You should still get Skyward Sword if you get the chance. If you enjoyed Majora's Mask then you should enjoy any of the 3d console Zelda games as well.

I consider everything except the big 5 to be "2d" Zeldas. I don't think I'll be doing the first 2 games for a while, they are way too hard.

As I told in the OP, I played ALttP for like an hour or two and I found it incredibly boring. Does it start to get interesting later or are they just bad?

I know this is a little off topic, but I find this to be a shame because the final stretch of Wind Waker (after the Triforce hunt) is absolutely amazing.

I think a LttP is definitely worth putting more time into, I believe it has the most dungeons/bosses of all the Zelda's, and while the overworld isn't full of sidequests, there's still multiple things to explore. I might be wrong but I think it also offered the most items you could use. Difficulty is higher than the 3Ds, it's one of the hardest games I've tried beating with a 3 heart adventure. Overall I definitely consider it worth playing.
I hope that image actually shows up. Damn that room to hell

A lot of people mentioning Link's Awakening in here, it's actually one of the few I did not get around to playing. I thought the Oracle games were good, recommend playing both with 1 game file so you get to actually beat the final boss and upgrade your equipment better.

Fine then. I guess it's about time I finished WW. I started it in 08 and still haven't beat it. I just gotta borrow it from someone or buy it since it's the only 3d Zelda I don't own myself.

I would play through it again in its entirety, honestly up to the Triforce Hunt really doesn't take that long if you're a halfway experienced Zelda player, which you are.

One thing that is VERY important is that you should work to get the wallet upgrades ASAP, because throughout the game you will pick up lots of rupees which will not fit in your wallet, but could have if you upgraded, and that makes the triforce hunt much less of a chore (since really the only problem was the rupee farming).

If you upgrade your wallet to the max as early as you can, you won't really have an issue with the triforce hunt, I managed to do it in like an hour or something.

And then yeah, you get to go on to the next part which is incredible.

I've been playing Bomberman 64 lately and have been thoroughly enjoying the top-down 3D gameplay, solving [difficult] puzzles to obtain gold chips and secret items. It got me thinking... I'd really like a top-down 3D Zelda that's not in the vein of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. A rotatable camera would be absolutely necessary in providing a full-scope of the world at hand.

@Hogan:
Yeah I might consider that. Only like a week or something and I get like a month of free time. Maybe I'll buy WW and beat it from the beginning, it's been so many years since I started anyways...
But I have a lot of other games and some tournaments in summer so might take a while, but I played TP all the way from the beginning in 3 days last weekend so I guess it's fine. Just how long was WW again compared to the others?

@Muhti2:
I have tried to play the original Zelda, but damn that's a hard game. I beat the first dungeon where I got this boomerang and triforce shard. It just sucks to walk randomly somewhere far away and when you finally see something interesting, you die and have to do it all over again :(

I think WW is the shortest Zelda game if your just going to go from beggining to end without trying to beat it 100% due to it being the easiest and not have too many dungeons compared to other 3d Zelda's

I guess in that case MM is by far the shortest as the sidequests are what makes it so interesting and kinda long.
Doesn't WW have about as many dungeons as any other Zelda there is? And I always try to do the side quests anyways.

It depends on what you count as a dungeon. It has 5 definite dungeons, then the 2 Forsaken Fortress quests are ambiquous.

Then it must be my memory that is lacking. It's been 4 years since I actually played that game I think.

You can try The Minish Cap. It's quite a solid 2D Zelda game that often gets overlooked to titles like ALttP and Link's Awakening. That said, there are plenty of 2D Zelda games that are good to start with. Zelda 2, I wouldn't recommend at the moment. I know I love the game, but the difficulty is a bit too high, and like the first Zelda game, is rather cryptic unless you use an FAQ (Nintendo Power back in the day). Still, if you want a challenge, then look no further than Zelda 2.

The first Zelda is already damn hard for me, I can't figure out where to go, the combat is extremely clumsy and even basic opponents can mean trouble. Only found one dungeon so far and beat it. Also the damn river Zora, I hate that thing.

Well, if that one's hard, then wait until you try its second quest, or even Zelda 2.
