Friend's wii won't launch pm

Using my various sd cards which work on my own console, I can't get the pm launcher to initiate on my friend's console. Pressing launch just brings up a black screen. Interestingly enough, bootmii also doesn't work on his console. I reinstalled both bootmii and the hmc also.

Gecko still loads 3.02 though, but this is rather curious.

Is his wii hacked? If so, try restoring a NAND backup, or reinstalling homebrew + bootmii.
