So me and my friend play smash (of course). I always play smash and he was ALWAYS THE BEST OF US. But then he wanted to play Dota 2 which he says pays more money. Which is WAY harder to get ranked in tournaments. Anyways when I play him now I beat him almost always with Sheik. He then says "I hate melee, take my controller" or "Melee gets old and not fun" I lose on purpose but he still hates melee now. Any ways to make him not hate it and get him motivated to play? Sorry for this annoying question :p

Less dickish response though. Stuff like Dota and League are modern life destroyers kinda like WoW used to be for a lot more people. Try and ween him off the games and show him Melee is still fun. If you cant do that, you could try a response outside of gaming and ignore him and see what he does, it wont change much if all he does is Dota 2 anyway. If you're lucky though, he'll take it as a sign that you want your friend back. From my personal experience with people who have a defeatist attitude about Melee, there's probably no coming back. They're often set on quitting and dont give a **** to come back.

And about going to new peoples houses, there's no such thing as awkward. Just get to know people and talk to them and ask for advice/games. This community has been generally pretty helpful for as long as I can remember. They wont bite, much.

Well, if his interest in Dota is truly for the money, then there likely isn't much you can do to dissuade him.

For instance, TI3's prize pool for first and second place(s) was a little over $1.4 million and $600k respectively... (to be split among five man teams, for those who aren't familiar with the game.)

Pretty tough to top that :p

Did he say it was for the money? He did, didn't he. It's not just for that. I really like the professional atmosphere of the game and its tournaments. I like the huuuuge amount of skill needed to play the game at a high level. I like the amount of respect and recognition these players get. And finally, I like the game itself.

By the way, I just read the original post and it's mostly lies. First there was that thing about me "only doing it for the money" which I just addressed. Also, I never seriously said I "hate melee". I've just gotten somewhat tired of it over time. Perhaps I just practiced too much, but everything about it seems awfully monotonous to me now. Simply put, I just found more reasons to put a stop to my melee playing than not. He's been trying to make me stay, but I clearly don't want to continue, especially not against my will. He's been trying to get the entire smash community against me. He's already desperately texted mew2king and hungrybox telling them his version of the story and trying to tell them to ask me to stay. He's posted facebook threads, asked around in stream chats, this...
