Free Roam, survival mode and/or time trial mode for Smash Run.

So for the unaware, City Trial in Kirby Air Ride had a free roam mode where you could roam around the map all you want and all of the game's vehicles were availablevin an underground area for you to swap between on the fly and it was good for two reasons, for one it'd be good for first time players to discover hidden areas that they'll take to account in the main game, and second it was fun to mess around with friends if you REALLY felt like you had nothing left to do, other than that in free mode there's literally nothing else to do.

If Smash Run has a free roam mode of it's own I see it being more fun than City Trial's because first off, I think the enemies should still be on the map so you could just fight them for as long as you want so there's already way more to do than City Trial's free roam mode. Smash Run's could also serve as a way to help players find hidden areas, even though we've seen the mapin the direct we don't know if there are any other secret areas that won't show up on the map until someone finds it.

I'm legitimately curious about whether or not Sakurai would add this since he's already borrowing a bunch of ideas from City Trial and honestly I hope he does add a free roam mode because the only reason I want to play Smash Run is just to fight the enemies, I don't care much about the mini games afterwards. If not then at the very least he could give us a survival and/or time trial mode for Smash Run.

Survival mode would have your damage percentage would slowly increase over time, enemies would always drop health items when you defeat them and the mode doesn't end until either you die or you've defeated all the enemies on the map.

Time trial would have you defeat all enemies on the map and you'll be ranked on how fast you completed it.

Or Sakurai could do both, if you can manage to defeat every enemy without dying you'll be scored based on how long it took you to kill everyone.

I remember playing free roam in city trials for hours with my brother. I think it would be pretty cool just to fight and explore the map of smash run with some friends for a while. However, I feel that free roam would not work as well as it did in Kirby air ride.

I do like the idea of survival mode. I think it would add something else to the Smash Run course if you had to clear all the enemies from the map. It would be a reason to play the map alone over and over again.

I'd especially like one if you can attack other players and steal their upgrades after defeating them.

It could become a crazy race to see who can max out their powers first, then everyone would gang up on the one who does until he's defeated, so someone else takes his power-ups and everything keeps going! And of course, that'd be just one of the things you can do, the possibilities are endless! You could even go role playing or something, lol.

It's completely pointless, and there wouldn't be a way to win or lose, but would be ****ing fun as hell.

I'm all for this. In general, I am hoping Smash Run is used for some kind of mission mode, or at least has a heavy empahsis in the Challenges list if that returns from Brawl and Kirby Air Ride.

Oh I didn't think about the challenge list idea, hey it might happen considering Kid Icarus Uprising had it as well so that concept is still very relevant.

The Smash Run arena is so huge and detailed, I'd be surprised if it only had one function. I expect a few different game types to involve it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's all going to happen though part of the fun in City Trial is that you couldn't see the stats of your opponents until the end of the 5 minutes so no one would know how powerful you were until it's too late.

I feel that was one of the best part of playing with friends. The reveal at the end to see who got what and see who you would need to fear or attack first.

Yeah exactly, the only reason you'd really have to bbeat on someone for their power ups is if you and someone else happen to run into eachother or if you happen to run in the middle of two players fighting each other for their power ups.

Would love some Air Ride-styled free roam. My sister and I always made it our goal to launch every vehicle into the river by ejecting at just the right moment. :)

Or the only reason there is to beat someone up was if they came by and swooped up your item that you were going for

Oh yeah, I can see those moments happening a lot, really a lot of things can happen like two players get so caught up with fighting each other one of the regular enemies hits them while they're weakenned causing both of them to die and lose power ups.

I seem to recall you could harm other players and steal their sh*t if you made em lose all their health i.e DESTROY their vehicle in Kirby Air Ride!

In Smash Run it'd probably work like how you'd die in the Subspace Emissary where you're fine as long as the camera is centered on you but as soon as you get knocked too far away from where the camera is facing that counts as a death.

Hmm... A free run mode would fit rather well...

I remember spending 90% of my time on my cousin's GameCube Playing Free Run in City Trial.

Free Run Mode in City Trial actually had some missions to do for the Checklist, so hopefully they'd do it in Smash Run.

Well sort of, everything you could do in free roam to complete the checklist can be done in the main game except for the ones where you have to be playing Free Run for 5 minutes or so it was just easier to do some of the other ones in Free Run, and it helped that Free Run was the best mode to play to find all the secret areas so when you play the main game you knew a few more areas to check for power ups.

I like this idea. Free roaming through the field would be a great way of trainning before join a real battle in Smash Run.

About the enemies, I would LOVE if the enemies replace the wireframes/alloys in the Multi-Man modes.
