When recording at 60fps fraps causes my game to slow down and thus the video to slow down to seemingly 40-50fps or so. Any ideas? I'm new to this and don't really know where to start. Thanks in advance

I can post some videos if it would help. But they are just basic ztd falcon combos

First option, record it in low resolution
Second option, record it on less FPS, like 50 or 40 by default

depending on how good your comp is you have to reduce your resolution, recording on a lower fps never worked for me, the highest resolution i can record in is 512x384. doesnt bother me much, quality is still pretty good and i only record frmo playbacks.

Hmm, I only have the trial fraps and have it set on the half-size resolution setting which is 400x300. I try running it on 30 or 50 fps but it slows down playback. Any other good screen recorders (free?)

Try Hypercam or Camstudio?
Fraps recordings will get somewhat laggy for me, but if its at a constant 30-50fps, then maybe you'll just need a better CPU.

Hypercam is decent, Camustdio sucks and Fraps is the best.

Record on the lowest possible resolution with low FPS... If it records well, try better quality until you find the PC limit. If even with the lowest settings doesnt record well, just drop your PC and buy a new one xP.

Or you can use Mupen and it records really really easily with really high resolution :lick:

It all depends on the settings. I've seen some crazy good Hypercam videos (Remember the Sweden guys like Maltfox? I'm pretty sure they said they used Hypercam for their videos) and some crazy good Camstudio videos. I remember me, Nephiros, and a few others used Riverpast which is really good for slower computers. You really just have to experiment.

I'm using an HP Pavillion dv4, 4 gigs ram, 64 bit dual core AMD 2.1 ghz processor. Seems as it should be powerful enough to run it, but i'll try other recorders.

Sounds like its powerful enough to run fraps.

For some reason, for me Hypercam never recorded at more than 20 FPS (sucks) and CamStudio had a pathetic vid quailty even though i did record on uncompressed mode.
By the way, Hypercam 3 is out since not long ago and I didnt try it.
