Hey all,

Ok, i know u've probably disscussed this before but i searched and coudn't find what i was looking for.

I know that fox is technically better then falco. My questionis, in a fight, on a fair field, who would win IF BOTH PLAYERS WERE EQUAL SKILLED? This is not really posssible since no two ppl are equaly skilled at everything.

Now, if yo looked at the tier list, it says that fox would win, since hes higher then falco. Except if you look at the character comparison chart, it states that falco has a very slight edge over fox. Obviously, either the chart, or the tiers are wrong. More likely though, I'm missing something.

Thanks for your help

Just because the tier list puts fox over falco doesn't mean that it contradicts the character comparison list.

Well you're not really missing anything. You have all the data you need.

What you need to identify is the skill level of the players.

If they are of a VERY high level, then fox would win as although falco has a matchup advantage, fox is faster and has infinites which can overcome this matchup disadvantage.

If the skill level is lower then falco will probably win since he can stun fox with his shl and combo better. All this assumes players are of equal skill level, but this never happens obviously.

Also, falco is very stage dependant. For instance, on FD he will whip fox, but on smaller levels such as battelfield, fox will be at an advantage. You also have to consider falco's poor recovery.

There are too many factors really...

I'm neither a Falco nor a Fox player, but to me it sounds like you are confused to function of the tier list and the match-up chart (presumably Phanna's).

First, the tier list isn't a list of best to worst characters in the game. It is stated that it is a list of how well characters typically do in tournaments (so Fox usually places higher than say, Link).

The match-up chart does what you think it would, tells you characters do on a one vs. one match up. Again I play neither Fox nor Falco, so I can't say personally; but given the match-up chart I'd guess Falco does have an advantage over Fox (although I've heard otherwise).

O i get it, so whatyour sayn is, is that the countr guide is sorta like a trump on the tier list, yet the skill of the players, and the skill level of the players trump everything?

Go it. Also, im hving trouble with shl. I seam to almost never do the short hop, it always does the genune jump. also, whats the use of the shl in the first place?

For short hops, I would reccomend flicking the edge of the X button with your thumb. Its just down to practice to get the sensitivity right.

SHL have different jobs for fox and falco.

For fox its a quick way to get a bit of damage. During a stock you will probably add about 5-15% with lasers.

For Falco, because of the stun, you will get a moment where the opponent cannot do anything and you use this moment to initiate your combos and get your attacks in. It also adds a bit of damage. Generally, whenever you get your laser in, its an opportunity for you to attack. If you can wavedash away and SHL at the same time, it'll make your opponent think about chasing you when you retreat.

Ok, thanks. last thing although this has nothing to do with the topic. i currently play as marth and falco. I like mewtwo as a fun character as he is very uhm diffrent the the other 2. However is it bad that hes the lowest on the tier list?

Play whoever you want, man. There are some very good players playing pretty much everyone nowadays. You won't see them winning national tournaments, but they'll compete.

Fox would win because his UP+A is stronger and he can shine spike and his lasers are faster. Just my opinion because i play fox. Falco is still awesome. :p

Equal player skill would not mean the tiers would come into play. Unless both players thought the exam same, then the tier-factor would determine the outcome, unfortunately, two people do not think alike when it comes to mindgames/playstyle.

yes, well said.

Falco has a slight advantage, but not enough to be considered a counter.
