Forsake Smash 4 3DS version for Wii U?

I don't have a Wii U, but it's looking like I will purchase one solely for the new Smash Bros. Then I remembered, I have a 3DS. But I don't want to get Smash 4 for it. I feel like this game was meant to be played on a large screen, and for that reason, I'm willing to buy a new console instead of just utilizing one I already have. Is it wrong of me to think I won't get the game's full potential on the 3DS version?

Smash on the go has more potential than smash at home

No. It's not wrong. Everyone's allowed to have opinions, and I also feel that exact same way.

Speed, how can you know your preference without playing both? Would you just have to sample them both before buying one and decide which one you like beforehand? I haven't yet researched if there are any major differences besides "portable vs not".

Xermo, why more potential on the go?

Dimensions, are you pro wii-u version just for the bigger screen?

The Wii U has a good library of games so far along with Smash 4. If you're interested in games like 3D World, MK8 and Earthbound, I reccomend them. Wind waker is also fun, and more games are coming!

I'll buy the Wii U one because i don't have 3DS, but i won't buy a console because 1 game.
Of course i will avoid internet amd Miiverse when the 3DS version comes out and don't get spoiled.

Here is the thing, you already own a 3ds so you might as well buy the game and see how you like it.
And yes, they are both smash games but 3ds has the lesser graphics. In my opinion, smash on the go has more potential

tbh I might use the wii u version more, but 3ds version will come out first, plus there is smash run, plus there's the fact that more of my friends have a 3ds than a wii u, so I'm getting both versions.

Think of it kinda like pokemon. There are 2 versions, preferences will make people choose between the 2, but some people will get both versions

You should also consider the fact that the Wii U has tons of amazing Nintendo games :I

I suppose there's more than I thought But if that metroid is true I may end up having to get one.
And damn you for getting my hopes up after I had finally given up on it ever happening.

I'd just buy the 3ds version for now if I were you. Gage how much you like it and see whether buying a wii u will be worth it for that version. The wii u is still young so even if you do buy it just for smash right now there are bound to be other great games you'll like coming out.

I'm getting the 3DS version since I have one, and will get the U version if it's bundled (which is practically implied for how silly Nintendo would be to not do that). Otherwise, 3DS it is. They offer different things, and the U version doesn't have Smash Run.

Have both systems, will get it for both. I'm not too excited for a handheld version but I'm impatient and want to mess with the game asap. It's kinda crap I can't enjoy this new game on day one with my 3 brothers infront of the TV like we've done since melee, I have a 3DS and one of them do but the other two aren't going to buy it for this.

Nintendo is only releasing the 3DS version first because if they were both out at once the Wii U version would outsell the crap out of the 3DS one, if you think otherwise that's your opinion, just know you have no idea how the world/business works :p

Why did you blank out SM3DW? It's one of the best Mario games, honest.

Not much of a mario fan

I might just bookmark this comment so I can come back and laugh at it if you're wrong. I just don't see how a console that has sold 44 million units is going to lose to one that has only sold 7 million. Especially when the 3ds one is 20$ cheaper.
Also I can only think of two games that are on both consoles, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Shovel Knight, and both sold better on the 3DS than the Wii U.

Do it :)

Of course they aren't coming out at the same time like I had just said.

I'm getting the both, but i probably won't play the 3DS that much when the Wii U one drops.

I do not believe that it is "wrong" as that is a subjective notion; however, I do believe that you are missing out on the potential of the game if you do not get both. There are version exclusive modes, stages, music, and trophies. Objectively speaking, if you only experience one version of the game, you are missing out on the other half.

Id say get both, honestly, there are some features that the Wii U doesn't have that the 3ds does. Also, when you're not home and you are really want to play smash, why not play the 3ds version? It's still smash and there will be alot of people playing the 3DS version online.

I'll still play the Wii U version more often because it's better however.

Personally I don't think I'm going to be touching the 3DS version much once the Wii U version comes out, it really is a couch game imo, and I don't think I'm missing out on too much since the Wii U version seems to have the better stages, controls and will ultimately make for the most comfortable multiplayer experience. The 3DS version is mostly for if you're too impatient for the game to release, don't have or want a Wii U, or if you live a life where portability is a big plus for you. I'm still getting the 3DS version though since I'm impatient and want the benefits of both versions if there is such a thing.

Well, the stages thing...that's subjective, I mean, so far the Wii U's lacking an Awakening stage, Rainbow Road and a good Kid Icarus stage.

As someone who dislikes frantic stages the only one of those that are appealing is Arena Ferox. The 3DS is missing Town and City, Kalos Pokémon League and Pilotwings which look to be three really great stages, and with a little luck Pyrosphere could end up being a really great neutral stage too, and on top of it there's also Halberd, so while it has Arena Ferox and Prism Tower I do still prefer the Wii U stages thus far.

We all hope that...but I'm talking more about terms of Iconic locations, and you don't get much more iconic than Rainbow Road, I like most kinds of stages so I usually judge stages based on their Nintendo importance, for example, I love Windy Hill's layout, but I would still prefer an unplayable Planet Wisp over that unimportant piece of crap. The stages on the 3DS are one of the main draws of the version, I just hope they don't keep Brinstar, Green Hill Zone and Jungle Japes 3DS only, there's more than enough space to bring back all 64, Melee and Brawl stages on the damn disc, not to mention those three locations are originally from home-console games.

I get it, they want people to buy both versions, but keeping past stages version-exclusive would be an evil, EA-esque marketing scheme, and Nintendo's not like that :c

Yeah, no matter what I just can't take the 3DS version completely seriously. I think I might have been able to if it was its own release, but since it is just the 3DS version of the Wii U version, I'll definitely have to prefer the Wii U version. Better/clearer graphics (the 3DS still has those horrible jagged edges going on, and the 3DS version's graphics are tacky), and the best part - more music and other content.

Thanks man, I figured there might be and made attempts to go digging for it but then I got lazy.

I'd previously thought that the WiiU was pretty much a failed system and that Nintendo was just trying desperate attempts, such as releasing a game with a diehard following, to breathe life back into it. Anddd it might work.

I'm actually surprised so many people are getting both. It never crossed my mind to do that. But honestly I've had this 3DS since last christmas and have yet to play it. :/

To be honest I'm thinking that I may only pick up the 3DS version. I like the idea of Smash on the go.

Plus I'm more than content with Melee/Brawl/64/PM so I'm not really seeing much of a reason to go buy a Wii U just for this game. Never been much of an online player.

I bought my Wii U on day one, and I've never regretted it. The system already has some amazing titles out, with many more on the way. I'm not planning to buy a 3DS, so this is an easy choice for me. That said, I totally understand people who want to get their hands on the game asap or who want/need the portability that only the handheld version will offer. Others may prefer the 3DS version because of Smash Run, or they may not want to spend the money on a Wii U if they won't be playing many other games on it.

So, to answer your question the long way: you'll likely get a Smash experience that is "full enough" if you buy the 3DS version only. It's the same core game, so unless you need that big screen experience (like me), you should be just fine. However, it is my opinion that the Wii U is a ballin' system worthy of much more praise than it receives, and I would highly recommend buying it to anyone who wants the "full" Super Smash Bros. experience.

I got both systems and I'm planning on getting both versions and playing them both regularly.

I will likely be playing on Wii U more often because of the big screen (it really affects more than I expected, I played both demos and it's easy to get lost when playing 4-player matches on 3DS, even with outlines and the 3D effect.) and the better controller, but having the game on the go is simply way too good to pass up. Especially since it seems like I'll be able to transfer my data between both versions.

The Wii U needs as many moved units as possible. Go for it, and pick up the 3DS version afterward.
For a bit of time the 3DS version will be playable before the Wii U version even releases.

If you're getting both it makes the most sense to just get the 3DS version first, obviously.

As long as they'd throw Nintendo a bone and get a Wii U (I'm probably ising that phrase wrong. :p), then sure. :p

You are misled, and if you've had a 3DS since last christmas and haven't played, you probably need to do some serious catching up on tons of amazing games.
