I'm going to have a local Project M Tournament, but what format should I do? I don't mean any specific rules, I have that down, but could anyone give me an idea on a specific tourney format? Thanks!

If you wondering how to prepare for a tournament you should do these things:

1. Practice
This is like a duh thing but practice things you have never tried before and try to master things you can't do yet like shine spiking.
2. Bring Water
Water helps me focus more so it plus you don't play as well if you thirsty.
3. Learn

When you go learn from everything you do even when you win or lose if you win learn what you did to win and learn from that if you lose learn from the mistake that you made and learn to not do it again.
4. Focus
Tournaments can be really hype (those are the best ones) but if the crowed is cheering against you bring like music to signal them out or just don't pay attention cause they make you lose focus and you don't play as good when you're not focus.
5. SLEEP
Get rest before the tournament it will make you focus better and you'll just have a better time :).
I hope this helps you and have fun at your tournament :).

I think he was more asking about pools/double elimination/round robin kind of format...

Besides, point 2 is totally wrong. You should only be drinking beer. From at least 10am the day before.

I held a 38 man PM tourney recently and I just went by the PM ruleset here on SmashBoards.

http://smashboards.com/rulesets/project-m/

I did double elimination via a loser's bracket, best 2/3 matches and 3/5 for finals. It worked out very well. I think the whole thing took 3-4 hours max.

I used http://www.challonge.com for tournament management.

Just telling you what I did. Hope this helped!
