Ive seen a lot about this posted on the forums and there seems to be a large divide.

Is it better to stay in a match with an opponent who is clearly worse than you in an effort to "teach them" or is it better to best 2/3 then and leave.

I've seen in multiple threads people complain that their opponent left before they had a chance to learn from them or learn the matchup as well as people claiming that staying with a bad or player whose below you is wrong because it's just basically a pubby stomp.

I'd like to know what the community thinks I don't want to be a huge jerk on For Glory. Personally if they show any promise of improving I'll stay until they leave, if they don't I'll leave after one or two games. I'd like to know what yall think on the subject.

Personally i play all matches, if the opponent is weaker I use it as a sort of training. Work on my secondary or third characters, or practice effective perfect pivoting and other techniques i wouldn't risk in a neck-and-neck match.

I normally do a best out of 3 unless I feel that my opponent is either adapting well enough where it's an interesting set of games, am against a superior opponent and I'd like to learn the match-up more, or until I feel my opponent isn't taking the match serious enough. When the first happens, I'll play a few matches until I feel that they aren't adapting any more for me to practice my reads and then move on. If it's the second, I'll play until I feel I'm not adapting to my target anymore and distress. If it's the third, I'll leave earlier.

I don't think there is or will be any set in stone etiquette for FG and you certainly hold no responsibility towards helping another player or vice versa.

For me it depends on my mood - usually I'll give people a few games no matter what their skill level is, but like @ S stancosmos said, if they're significantly worse than me, I'll often practice riskier options or switch out to a pocket character. I figure almost any human beats a CPU as far as useful practice goes. I'll rarely all-out sandbag though - if I'm using an obviously new player for practice purposes and they stick around, might as well let them try to learn how to fight a decent opponent.

At the end of the day, just go with what you feel. I think if you're not changing your tag to something trolly or derogatory, you're doing a good job of not being a jerk on FG.

I'm usually pretty humble on FG but that's one thing I don't care too much for. It's not my job to help people get better. If someone better than me sticks around for a few games, cool. I'll take what I can get from them. But I won't be upset if they decide to one and done me either.

I usually play one or two with most FG players unless they're really good or just generally fun to play.

I usually play best of 3 then find another opponent to keep the variety going,if I fight the same character again,I play 1 and done(2 if I want to give them another chance).

When I fight someone who is better than me or on the same level,I play till one of us drops out.

I always play until my opponent left o that have lag.
A weekend ago, I've played with a powerful Samus, I've played around of fifteen games, and I only won 2 games xD, but I've felt that improved my level of game, and today I've played with a Sonic and I lost 3 games, I'd wanted to play more but my opponent went away

Since there's no "rules" I just play it by ear. I beat a guy 24 matches in a row last night who kept coming back. I changed my name to "GR8Match" and things like that. No match was close... he was likely a kid but I tried to help him learn. If the matches were laggy, I would have left after a couple. And usually if I lose really bad, I'll keep trying as much as possible.

I usually stick around until my opponent leaves, irrespective of skill levels. Way I see it is, if they feel inclined to consistently challenge me, I'll show 'em what I've got and hope they learn a thing or two.

If I win quite clearly with my mains and don't drop out immediately, I'll usually cycle through my subs and get some training in. Occasionally I'll decide I've done enough light sparring and say "GG!" before dropping out.

Which is the best option? Well, there isn't really any, it's all down to personal perspective. Myself, I like to fight challenging opponents and keep playing for a few rounds. If I win but it's a close match and the opponent sticks around, I know they want to spar some more and I enjoy fighting them.

Oh, and as a rule of thumb, I always taunt when I meet a new opponent. I get hit for it most of the time but it's worth it for whenever I meet somebody who taunts in return and pays me homage to a fun match.

It's very rare that I leave a series. I play for the fun of it. If I'm whooping someone's ass who is clearly like a kid I'll leave after 3 or 4 games. I never quit if I'm losing though, only makes me better imo.

It irks me though when I have a good series with someone and they just ragequit after a close game. At least say GG or something. And every time I play a good series with someone I tell them to add me.

It also blows when someone taunts right after I SD TWICE and then quit before I get another chance, because they know what's coming their way

I only stay if I like my opponent.
If they are annoying, I leave.
If they are playing as Toon Link, I leave (unless they are good, then I stay. It's the spammy ones I can't tolerate)
If they lag, I leave.
If they are clearly new to the game, I play as Wario and go easy, then leave.
If they insult me via name tag I use Charizard to arse kick, save replay, stall time, then leave.
If you kick my arse and play well, I'm sticking to you like glue. I will beat you, even if it is just one time, I will beat you.

As for taunting I only do it if they do it, I see it as a "nice" or "look at what I did", but some take offence so I don't throw them out randomly.

I think you have a pretty good policy. You develop that second sense about an opponent, and whether or not they are learning/adapting. Obviously there is the random ones you get where just stomping on them so hard leads to no benefit of theirs, so those are fine to leave. Other then those, I try to 2/3 people even when I 2 stock them. Sometimes they switch chars, and I consider that a reset (might have been alt before) and 2/3 what I'm assuming is their 'main'. If they change chars more then three times, I'll usually just leave after that 2/3 (or if I'm just stomping them with what seems to be random pick).

There is so many scenario's and *what ifs* that in reality we'll never make everyone happy. I think in general, to be courteous I try and error on the side of playing that extra match, just in case someone can glean information, or feel they had a fair shot at me. If connection is spotty I'm out after the 1st match though. Lol
