Soo I was attending EGX the week, and stuff happened.
Nintendo held multiple tournaments a day, but for some reason most finalists and qualifiers picked Link. It started out as a random guy picking Link and winning a tourney, and afterwards Link was the "If you're a casual cheapass but want to win, pick him" character.

If a person was Link, his chances of winning increased by 50%, and quite a lot of Grand Finals were Link dittos. After some time, even the official Nintendo reps and commentators were annoyed by people picking Link (and winning) and the audience complained.
Basically if you chose Link you were NEVER cheered for and everyone wanted you to lose. The Nintendo reps and audience kept shouting stuff like "Not Link!", "Link is broken!" and the most used one: "Don't pick Link!".

Basically Link was the Meta Knight of the tourney (note that the tourneys were 4p with items on, except for Grand Finals). Even I lost to a Link (spammed arrows at me in Sudden Death while I KOD the third guy) :p

What do you guys think of this? I believe this "meme" will always be remembered by the people who actually were there, but I dunno what the rest of the community thinks. Should this be a new SSB4 thing? (kind of like "That aint Falco") :3

It's already a meme to the people who were at EGX. I'm just asking the rest of the community what they think of it (we can't force a new thing on the rest) :)

I wonder if someone managed to film one of the Link Dittos with the screaming crowd....

That sucks...Whatever items were on so...This needs to be tested in a 1v1 tourney.

Link is not that good. If people were only picking him and winning then more likely than not they were not good players.

How the hell was picking Link increasing the players' changes of winning by 50%? He's not top tier at all even with his buffs.

edit: Oh, in FFA with items on. So a total pub match.

We're only a couple of weeks into the meta. I remember when Ike was considered criminally OP in the early stages of Brawl but then people figured out patterns to stop him. It's only a matter of time before people figure out how to stop cheap Link players.

There were just a lot of bad players there, I guess.
As a Link main, even I can admit that while he's really REALLY good now compared to his Brawl incarnation[or even his Melee incarnation], he's not a cheap character.
