Fixing snap-back on GameCube pad?

So my platinum pad is no longer in working condition. It functions, and in any other game it'd probably be perfect, but the stick's travel from neutral position is far to long and it's much too loose. Before, it was perfect. It felt looser than usual pads, but not so much that it ruins inputs. Now, I can't do running nairs anymore; The input simply produces fairs now.
I have another Gen 1 pad, but the stick is much tighter in its neutral position and as a result, it produces a lot of snap-back, meaning I can't do running nairs. The controller reads the snap-back and I get a standing jump instead of a dash jump. So I have two questions about these:
1) Is there a way of changing how much track (or how loose) a stick's neutral position is? In this case, with the platinum pad.
2) How would I be able to fix the snap-back issue I'm having with the second pad?
All help appreciated!
