Hey guys, so I'm new around here and new to Smash in general, I just got my first 3DS the other day and I'm getting absolutely 'smashed' online. I've been playing For Glory 1v1, seems like the best mode to me, not really a fan of the items and 4 player modes. I've been losing almost every single match I've played lol - it's like everyones a pro, is there no matchmaking or something?

Anyway, does anyone have a link to a good video / guide for general advanced tips / strategies etc?

I've been using Lucina, but I'm starting to think shes pretty weak... dunno if I'll change to someone else soon. Having a lot of trouble against Captain Falcon too, any tips for when fighting him?

Thanks!

Most people aren't Pros on For Glory, but they have learned how to use some of the design limitations on For Glory to their advantage. The stage selection there favors 'zoners' (characters that have projectiles) and 'speedsters' (characters that can cover distances fast and combo their moves) which means that Lucina will have a slight disadvantage against characters that fall into those two categories. It's not the best mode for online, but it gets the job done and can teach you some vital skills. (Like Perfect Shielding, spacing and how to properly time your dodges)

For some general tips, advice and all things Lucina, head over the the Lucina threads. You'll get the best advice about how to maximize her there. Something I can say about Cap is that his grab game is one of the best there is, so learning how to use retreating aerials (jumping backwards while using your f-air and n-air) as well as your jabs will help you immensely against this fight. Once you're in a grab, you'll most likely get thrown in an angle so that he can continue to combo you with his aerials (or go for the kill with his f-air, the "knee of justice"). You'll want to practice fast falling and disrupting his combo with a fast acting move with high priority to save yourself. I believe Dolphin Slash should work for that as long as your hitstun isn't too long. (Up-B) I'm sure there is more specific info you can find in Lucina's Match-up thread.

Happy smashing, and don't be afraid to ask for friendlies here or set up a Anther's Ladder account if you seem to have issues improving in For Glory. One major disadvantage to For Glory as a learning tool is that there is no critical feedback on your performance after the match, which the other methods I mentioned require you to contact the person. Some people also record their work using a camcorder and the Replay tool to put the videos on the threads here to get advice to get around the critique issue on FG.

Wow, thanks a lot for this post Ghost!

I think I'm getting a bit better, started picking up some wins after watching the video posted earlier and doing some time in practice mode. Going to check out this Lucina thread now, also going to look up Anther's Ladder, not sure what that is yet XD, thanks again! :D

PS. Yeah I wish I could record my gameplay somehow... hmm...
